Failure of the World's Wisdom
Egypt was a symbol of the world. During the time of Joseph, Egypt was the center of learning and culture--it was a proud leader among ancient civilizations. But the people were idol worshipers; they did not know Jehovah. The inability of the wise men to interpret Pharaoh's dreams emphasizes the truth later recorded in 1 Corinthians 3:18,19: "Let no person deceive himself. If any one among you supposes that he is wise in this age ... [let him discard his worldly discernment and recognize himself as dull, stupid and foolish, without true learning and scholarship], that he may become [really] wise. For this world's wisdom is foolishness (absurdity and stupidity) with God. For it is written, He lays hold of the wise in their [own] craftiness" (Amplified).
But now Pharaoh was made to see that all human resources and wisdom are powerless and worthless and that true wisdom comes only from God.How wonderful it would be if leaders in today's world would also come to that realization! "The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him" (Ps. 25:14).
If world leaders would turn to the Scriptures and seek God's face, they would learn what is shortly going to come to pass.
From the results of Joseph's time in prison, we see that patience had had her perfect work. God's man was now ready. All things had been working together for Joseph's good, although he had not always recognized it.
"Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go" (Isa. 48:17).
Are you in a place of leadership? How do you seek God's wisdom in your leadership? When have you tried to use your own wisdom, and how did that turn out?

*nudge nudge* Hey... let me tell you a secret. It doesn't matter where wisdom comes from. There is no such thing as bad wisdom. By definition bad wisdom isn't wisdom. Therefore rejecting the wisdom of the world is a silly idea. The wisdom of the world teaches me to eat food to survive. Ought I only eat rocks?
@brokenleaf@xanga - No, you are wrong... re-read James, the 3rd chapter... just near the end. There are TWO kinds of wisdom.... earthly, sensual.... DEMONIC... and that which is of God. So, yes, there is "bad wisdom"... and it usually comes from those who are trying to EARN their salvation with their dead works and blinded eyes.
@nellyet@Revelife To the Author --- I point you to the only 3 times in all of Scriptures wherein it states "God Laughs". God doesn't have a sense of humor... the laughing is in scorn EVERY SINGLE TIME... and in 2 of the three instances it's directed at the leaders of Nations. Check out Psalms 2:4 for the clearest of them all
God laughs at the plans of the nations -- He mocks them in scorn.
(The other two times are Psalm 37:13 & 59:8)
God places those in leadership whom he desires (A point that Daniel felt needed to be seriously stressed --- Daniel 4: 17, 25, 32 & 5:21) and allows them to serve in His Plans and purpose --- why else would Pontius Pilate have been in power exactly when Christ was to be Crucified.... review Acts 2:23, 3:13-15, 4:27-28 for a great review of this theme. They may be bad or good --- God said of Pharoah "I raised you up.... that I might display MY POWER to all the Earth." (Romans 9:17) --- but ultimately they dance to God's tune and purpose and plan.
All that said --- let me ask you this bluntly. What "wisdom" can a dead man have? What "Light" can a blind man see? The men of this world have rejected God, rejected wisdom --- they are dead in their sins and blind to true wisdom.... so why should I turn to blind leaders if they will only cause me to fall into a pit eventually? This is a point I have been trying to make to my readers for over 2 years now ---- The world has - N-O - Wisdom to offer the child of God, for we have the scriptures which "are able to make (us) wise to salvation through faith in Jesus".
While the Bible may not tell me the second law of thermodynamics --- I would ask is knowledge of that scientific law really necessary for life overall??? I can get by without knowing that "things always tend towards entropy (downward degression) and not upwards progression" (that was vastly simplified and I apologize to any out there scientifically minded who know the law in full) or I can simply believe "man is sinful and will become more and more increasingly so as the time of His appearing comes"..... same principle, different words.
It comes down to this (in summary) --- God has always Used nations (and Men) as he will and never looks to those who reject him to HAVE wisdom ---- he always places this call before them....
>>>>Wisdom’s Rebuke
Out in the open WISDOM CALLS aloud,
she raises her voice in the public square;
on top of the wall she cries out,
at the city gate she makes her speech:
“How long will you who are simple love your simple ways?
How long will mockers delight in mockery
and fools hate knowledge?
Repent at my rebuke!
Then I will pour out my thoughts to you,
I will make known to you my teachings.
But since you refuse to listen when I call
and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand,
since you disregard all my advice
and do not accept my rebuke,
I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; (NOTE: another verse of God laughing that I missed)
I will mock when calamity overtakes you—
when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind,
when distress and trouble overwhelm you. (Proverbs 1:20-27)
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7)
@brokenleaf@xanga - The base needs of our physical nature are not wisdom. Human nature includes our physicality to be sure, but wisdom is of heart, intellect and spirit.
@JulieMillerFan@xanga - tldr. Also, bible verses don't work on me generally because I see them only as marginally trustworthy anecdotes.
