Given the honor killings (link is to recent entry regarding honor killings) that have made the news lately I find this news very disturbing. Why should Muslims get to live under a different law than the other citizens of the same country? And, given the way the Sharia law is written in the Quran it's horrible toward women, and it's going to be applied to domestic violence cases. My guess is that this will mean that the majority of the domestic violence cases will be found in favor of the abuser.
What do you think? Should Sharia law be allowed to be applied in Western Cultures?
What about here in the US?
I posted a somewhat related entry back in March of 2006. Except in that entry it was about Australia and their response to people who want to practice Sharia law. Good reading if anyone is interested!

Its horrible !!! They need to conform to the laws and traditions of the UK, or they can just go to Saudi Arabia or wherever else they have Sharia.
