  • Ping

I was really excited to learn about the new beta site Ping; based on their message it sounded like the perfect answer for a girl who uses Revelife, MySpace, Facebook, Blogged, and Twitter everyday. Wouldn't you love a way of updating your status on all sites at once? Or being able to send the same blogs to multiple sites without the tedious copy/past, sign-in/sign-out, etc. etc.

"Ping.fm was created for the sole purpose of making it as easy as possible to share your posts with the world. Now you don't have to fumble around the web in order to post anymore, you can just post once, and be done with it. The idea came about when making some posts to Twitter and Tumblr. The idea of posting the exact same information in two places seemed a bit tedious, so Ping.fm was born. " --Ping

Since it is a beta site they are only offering a limited number of subscribers and you have to have a beta code in order to sign up. So...I searched out a beta code on google and after a handful of failed attempts, found the current code and was able to create an account. Yay! I set up my 'dashboard' by providing my login information to all the sites I want to update, and then I read the instructions on how to "ping" my sites with updates.

I'm anxiously waiting to see if it really works, I type a status update into the dashboard box and click send........I then sign into my facebook, xanga, and myspace accounts and *whala* all my status updates have been made! Yay again! It sounds too good to be true, but it really works!

Excited about my new time saving blogger abilities, I took my lunch hour to write a funny little post on giving advice. Did you read it? No? Oh, that must be because it isn't posted here. Or, anywhere. Yes, I spent 40 minutes happily writing, laughing to myself at my own little beads of humor and introspection, hit the submit button with confidence that everyone who visited any of my sites would have their day brightened this day because they would all be able to read my happy little post.

But, alas, Ping let me down and did not ping my post to any of my sites. I still do not know why it didn't work, and I can't seem to find an answer. What I do know is that there is no way for me to retrieve that post in it's entirety now that it has been sent into the pingmosphere - there is only a view of approximately 1/3 of my post on the "recent posts" page of my Ping dashboard and apparently no other way to view recently posted items.

I haven't decided if I will give Ping another chance, they really hurt me last time, and that was a damn good post.

If you're interested in trying Ping for yourself (and don't say I didn't warn you!) the current beta code is "thispingsforyou" but they change daily - if it doesn't work just message me and I'll send you the latest code.
