  • Fall Party Today

I just woke up at 9am.... how glorious is that! I love sleeping in. It's gets a little hard though because I start to feel sore in the hip area from sleeping on my side. I might have stayed in bed a little longer!

Today I have the whole day free until 3pm when Eric and I are going to go to the annual Fall Party at the Noble Farm (family from church). Our friend Nate will make huge amounts of his famous chili and everyone else will bring delicious fall dishes to share. I am bringing Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread, which I am making today.  There will also be some pumpkin carving, possibly bobbing for apples (which I never do because I'm a sissy about getting water in my nose, lol), games, a hayride and a bonfire. It is a lot of fun! The weather is supposed to be fantastic today as well.

Until then I have some laundry to do and I need to clean the kitchen from yesterday's messy cooking endeavors, lol. I'm such a mess in the kitchen when I cook!! It can be totally clean and then when I'm done making dinner it looks like a disaster area. My dad is like that, too, maybe it is hereditary. But there is an unwritten rule somewhere that if Kim uses flour in any way, it will end up all over the place, including her shirt. HAHA!! I could have cleaned it up last night but I knew today was Saturday and all I wanted to do last night was veg on the couch. Do you ever have one of those days? I think I needed to catch up on my rest or something.

  • Things That Make My Baby Wiggle

That title makes me laugh, but there really are certain things that seem to make this little McNugget do the chicken dance! Wednesday night was the first time I felt it.  I had rushed into bible study about 15 minutes late, and no sooner did I settle in and begin to share my answer for the ice breaker, when suddenly I was interrupted by a crazy flutter of movement in my belly! Some women have described this initial experience as bubbles popping, butterflies, etc. But in my experience it felt like a toy helicopter had suddenly taken off in my womb and took a 10 minute flight. It was so hard to concentrate on what I was saying that I had to stop and let the ladies know what was going on. It was really neat because it was the first time ever - and they were right there! I'm guessing my running around prior to sitting is what caused the excitement.

I didn't feel so much yesterday during the day until around the same time last night when I was in choir. I started noticing the baby would kick around like a ninja every time I sang, especially during really high or really low notes. When the whole choir got really loud, it was like there was a party in my belly. Needless to say I think my child is a music lover. Choir must have really woken the kid up because he/she was fairly active the rest of the night, continuing to sputter around even after I fell sleep. I woke up to his/her happy dance a few times during the first half of the night.

This morning things seems calm until I got in the shower and then the child started jumping again.

Such a silly little baby!! Today I have noticed random movements here and there - either I'm more sensitive to it or the baby is getting stronger legs from all this practice. All I know is it is a wonderful feeling and yet so very weird!! Sometimes it feels like there are little fingers tickling my belly from the inside.

  • Why My Husband Rocks

Yesterday Eric saved me twice from pregnancy induced emergencies. This is just one of the reasons he is such a great husband. He doesn't laugh at me, he doesn't get upset, he is just extremely patient and sympathetic. I went to the public library after work to renew/return some books, but when I pulled out of the parking lot and onto the street, I wasn't sure if I was going the right way. (Weird, I know.) I quickly recognized the next turn,  however, and continued on my way.  But the second and the third turn, while completely familiar, started to feel completely wrong, and then all of a sudden I realized I had no idea how to get home. I felt like maybe I was going home the way I used to when I lived in the other direction, but I wasn't entirely sure. I have been to this library at least two dozen times, and I used to work in downtown Rockford, so the one way streets and confusing navigation have never been a problem. Last night, though, I felt like my map of the city had been erased from my brain. Everything looked familiar but nothing looked right. Confusion, and then fear, settled in and by the time I heard Eric's voice on the phone I was weeping. I felt like I had gotten a case of amnesia or Alzheimer's, and it was scary and frustrating! Eric calmly pulled up a map on his computer to see where I was, and then directed me home while trying to calm me down. He gave me a big hug when I finally walked in the door.

The second time he saved me last night was not quite as traumatic. When we switched to using satellite for TV instead of cable, we got a different receiver and ended up losing the clock feature. (The satellite receiver does not have a screen on the front.) After a month without a clock in the living room, I finally raided the guest room and stole the alarm clock up there and brought it downstairs to hook up in the TV cabinet. I managed to feed the cord through the hole in the back of the cabinet, and then I leaned around the side between the TV and the wall to plug it into the outlet behind the cabinet on the floor. Well... I got stuck at the hips and my center of gravity shifted so that could not stand up with my hands hung in front of me like that. Eric had to run downstairs and scoot the TV out so I could lean the rest of the way in and plug in the clock, and then get out of there.

"What would I do without you, Eric?"

"Oh Kimmy.... I keep wondering that myself."

  • I Think I Overestimated...

... the amount of food Eric and I can eat. Or I underestimated the size of the meals I've been making from scratch. I have to admit, pretty much since we've been married, I've been a lazy cook. I buy frozen pre-made stuff and basically thaw and heat it. It's not that I don't know how to cook, because I do; but it's always been a matter of time. Cooking "real" meals requires a little planning and actually sitting down to write up a grocery list. Perhaps this little baby growing inside of me is finally saying, "enough mommy! Cook me some real food!" Last week I decided frozen should be the exception, not the rule. I sat down and planned out this whole week and then I went grocery shopping this past Saturday and bought everything I needed and nothing I didn't. (Wow.) Everything I've made for dinner this week has been off the Taste of Home website. (YUMMY!!) What I'm learning however, is that these meals yeild A TON of food and plenty of leftovers, even the ones that say "for two." So my initial complaint that this method was going to be more expensive is not altogether valid, because this "weeks worth" of recipes and food will probably last me 2 weeks with all the leftovers I have already.  In addition to the cooked leftovers, there are leftover ingredients, so I can throw new meals together out of the odds and ends. I thought this was going to cost me $100/week, but now it's looking like it will cost me about $50-$60 or so. That is not any more expensive than frozen crap - it's actually cheaper sometimes - it just depends on what you cook (meat can get pricey). I love bringing leftovers to work to reheat for lunch - it's much tastier than Subway. It's also been a lot of fun cooking from scratch - almost therapeutic.  The difference in taste is ridiculous, too. It's probably a lot healthier, too, since it's not packed with sodium and preservatives. And we are eating WAY more veggies. :) It will be easier to manage after the baby is born, since I won't be stuck in the office until 5 all the time. Lately dinner has been served between 7-8pm. I will have to find ways to cut time, maybe by starting certain things in the morning before I leave for work.
