The Word Alive: One Way to Find Meaning in Scripture
Years ago, I went to Creation, and the speaker on the main stage gave an amazing sermon that I've not forgotten. He instructed us to read the Bible and, when a verse pops out to us, we should do the following: write it down, then re-write it, putting emphasis on a different word each time. It makes the verse take on new meaning."Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." Psalm 119:105 NIV
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. (It's all about Him.)
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. (It's His word that allows us to endure.)
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. (God is ever present. Notice it doesn't say "was" or "will be." It says "is" -- now!)
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. (His word is available to be a guide in our lives.)
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. (This is mine. I can take ownership in it and cling to it. He gave it to me.)
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. (God's word gives us insight into who He is and what he desires for/from us. Our relationship with Him doesn't have to be dark or stagnant. He wants us to be drawn into him- out of the darkness.)
Now, the parenthetical phrases are my own. I'm no Biblical scholar, so please do not take hold of this as if it has to be interpreted this way. However, God allows each of us the opportunity to have a personal and intimate relationship with him. It starts with Jesus- "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12 NIV
Which do you prefer, the light or the dark?
How does reading scripture this way help you to discover meaning that you can apply to your life? What other methods of scripture reading have helped you? What do you take from this scripture after reading it several times?

You can read it backwards or standing on your head, but regardless it remains simply a man made Story book!
I won't be doing this anytime soon. I prefer cross references when reading scripture, to see another author's take on a subject.
I'm really sad to hear you feel that way. I challenge you to read the bible from cover to cover with an open mind and I guarantee it will change you. @Composer -
I have been successfully exposing and busting Cults like yours for over 50 years and my efforts have proved always vindicated!
I probably know the contents of the Story book bible far far better than most and I extend to ANY ONE, even YOU! to attempt to prove your Cults ideology?
You can start a Thread and inform me where it is or if you can't then by all means you can ask for my direct email address and try your luck against me using your own preferred Story book version should you also advise which one(s) it is and we can get started asap?
Over to you!
Thank you for this blog entry! I've been trying harder to memorize scripture. This is a helpful tool to use. There are so many profound verses throughout the Bible-- your method of studying scripture can help to depict the meanings and applications. Please don't get discouraged by the other comments you've received. The Bible may seem like just a book to non-believers, but we can rest in that the Bible was breathed out by God. (2 Timothy 3:16)
I am continuously looking online for articles that can facilitate me. Thx!

@pilotearloquepienso@xanga - Thank you for the kind words and encouragement. I know how a shift in perspective can shine new light on something we might have over looked in the past- in this case, a shift in emphasis.
Keep seeking His face. :)
