  • What is Your Purpose?

I run with purpose in every step.
    1 Corinthians 9:26

Purpose is an unshakable drive that gives effort, courage, and ambition meaning. It gets us out of bed in the morning and stands relentless in the face of obstacles. God’s purpose cannot be stopped, and utilizes the talents, desires, and character instilled in each one of us.  Every student wants to be great- no one is meant to be a bystander.(Source)

Last night in church one of the Pastors brought up that we shouldn't praise God as slaves. I never considered this before, but I must be honest that there are times especially during the winter months where I wake up and dread going outside. Usually I think to myself "God is never too tired nor too cold to watch over me, so I will not use that as an excuse to not worship Him."

I do think she has a point however, there are many Christians (myself at times) that are in church because they are afraid that if they do not attend service, the grace of God will leave their lives. We should be serving God based on our passion instead of obligation, otherwise we will find joy in worship. Remember God knows our hearts, He cannot be fooled. Jesus died on the cross for us*, to rid us of our shackles of slavery to sin in the world. When we serve God we should carry out His will and put our talents and our resources to His reach. @jordon@revelife mentioned that he was able to play the drums for worship and I think that's a great example for how we should use our God given talents.

*"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

Recently I've been thinking a lot of what God's purpose for my life is, and I feel that He has given me a passion for children and teenagers that I never felt before. I live in NYC and I see kids on the street hanging out, smoking pot and drinking and thinking that is all the world has to offer them. I've been there and sure it's fun for a little while but the wrong choices you make when your mind is altered like that create scars in your heart that are hard to let go of. Even in the best of circumstances.

I won't say that I don't still drink because I do from time to time to celebrate and have a good time with my friends but it is never more than a few drinks. I actually enjoy that better than when I was off getting trashed on campus and saying and doing things that were unlike me. Anyhow, I want to become a mentor, not because I'm perfect (I'm far from it) but because I feel that there's a lack of guidance for children in our society and I would like more than anything to be a part of the solution. They only get to see the pretty pictures where everyone is smiling and seem to have a good time.

What do you think God's purpose in your life is? Do you have talents that God is able to use to bring joy and purpose to someone else?
