I'm not sure what Broun's credential's as a "scientist" are, but I do know the Bible pretty well. Let me put forward this quote:
"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
Romans 12-2
God loves the "renewal" and education of the mind. We know that with each generation we grow more educated and more aware of the way the universe works. Five centuries ago we believed that the world grew in 6 days of creation. Now we know that the world and the universe formed over the course of billions of years. In the future who knows what we will discover.
Why is evolution any less wondrous than the creation of the world in 6 days? Whether the majesty of our existence came into being in 6 years or 6 billion years does not matter, it was formed into being from a source that even the most brilliant scientists cannot quite figure out. We do not deny the existence of God by examining the mechanics with which He brought forth life. Evolution is God's tools, and the more we accept that the more we can learn and improve our own lives here on this Earth according to His plan.
When a man denounces the theory of evolution, he spits in the eye of God. Evolution was the tool by which God brought forth life -- and the more we study it the better we are able to understand and respect God. God has given us great gifts of intelligence and through intelligence we are able to prolong lives of our children and give hope to the suffering. We need to continue to study science if we want to save more lives and end more suffering in the future.
When we turn away from science, we denounce God and throw back the gifts of intelligence that He has given us. I, for one, refuse to do that. I will continue to study evolution and the big bang theory -- for such gifts of science are from God. Only unfounded denunciations of evolution and medical science come from the pit of Hell.
Do you think it's possible that God created evolution? Do you think the study of evolution could help us understand God better? Why not evolution?

This one actually made it onto Revelife? Why not evolution? Try evidence. I think that's a pretty good reason why not. There's too much speculation and missing evidence to support evolution. I don't see anything in the Bible that supports evolution, either. It says that God spoke, and then there was. Created. Done. Why not evolution? Is that a serious question that's supposed to spur thoughtful critique of the Bible, intelligent discussion among Christians, to come to some wondrous conclusion that may or may not be supported by Scripture? Give me a break...
@RevoHor@xanga - This is a good resource for learning more about evolution and the evidence for it: LINK

You're right. The vast, vast majority of the scientific community (which includes people of all faiths) has just convinced themselves of something that simply does not reflect reality. How silly of mankind. Next thing you know, people will try to argue the earth isn't the center of the universe. When does the madness stop?
@Kris0logy@xanga - "but you cannot breed a cat with a dog nor in time does a dog ever have a cat like descendant etc etc etc..."
If gravity existed, scientists would have to show evidence of little green aliens anchoring everything to the Earth's surface to prevent all of the stuff from floating away. We cannot demonstrate this. Therefore, gravity does not exist.
@Kris0logy@xanga - Well, I figure if we're going to disprove scientific theories by proposing completely nonsensical things that WE think said theories are supposed to account for, then I might as well join in on the fun! :D
Think about it - you just used the argument that since we cannot have cats evolving from dogs, that must presumably pose an issue with macroevolution. Who said that evolution must have dogs evolving from cats or vice versa to be true? And are you aware of the relationship dogs and cats have on the evolutionary tree? (They share the same order, but different families)
@Kris0logy@xanga - Check my edit above.
@whataboutbahb@xanga - The Earth isn't the center of the universe!?
... are you MAD!?
We are very presumptuous indeed to assume that because The Bible says that God created the world in six days means the He didn't create it by evolution or the Big Bang. We believe that God created the World, how He did it is inconsequential because however He did it, He looked at what he created and called it good and He made it for mankind to enjoy and tend, that is what should be important to Christians.
@Kris0logy@xanga -
Christianity does not have to be at odds with current scientific understanding of how the world works. That was the point of the article. Your disagreement with evolution represents disagreement with the vast majority of experts who devote their life to studying this area, as well as the vast bulk of the current evidence that we currently have. Thus, the answer that christians shouldn't believe evolution on scientific grounds is a completely bogus answer. If Christians want to argue against evolution, they're better suited arguing that God created the world to appear in such a way that mankind studying the world will be doomed to produce incorrect answers. That argument seems a little strange and unnecessary though, since evolution isn't at odds with Christianity.

Off with my head?
Or, more fitting of history, maybe I should just be ordered under house arrest for the rest of my life?
@whataboutbahb@xanga - Let's compromise. How about accepting my theory that QuantumStorm is the center of the Universe?
@Kris0logy@xanga - I don't understand how you can have such strongly held beliefs about something you know almost nothing about. If you're going to boldly denounce evolution, at least take the time to learn what it is that you're declaring to be a lie.
wow, from the twisting of scripture to the purely emotional plea "if you don't buy what i'm selling you're spitting in God's eye"... yeah, you lost me already.. i don't even care what the question is.
Ah america! the only developed nation in the world that thinks evolution is a hoax. Let's assume the creation of the world in 6 days to be completely literal and take the rest of the book as a giant metaphor in which a few passages can be turned into an hour and a half long sermon.
if the Bible is so infallible, where are my slaves?
@flyfox65@xanga - America thinks that? No, not quite. Ever hear of the Skeptic Society?
@whyzat@xanga - Ever hear of the republican party or hyperbole for that matter?
Americans are funny in what you consider serious subjects. Keep it up. I am cheered over my ceareal whenever I read of the utterences barbarians youse guys vote into office. A pity you coon caps have the bomb but we can't have everything I suppose.
I love that people here are claiming the Bible is more valid evidence than fossil records, hormone evolution and other DNA-based evidence. Seriously?
@RevoHor@xanga - Scientific evidence makes a mockery of the theory of evolution.
@jenova_amaranth@xanga - Hormone evolution, even if true, isn't enough to prove that evolution is a general theory of all of life. And the fossil record refutes the theory of evolution believe it or not.
@QuantumStorm@xanga - This is part of the definition of evolution taken from the site you recommended:
The central idea of biological evolution is that all life on Earth shares a common ancestor, just as you and your cousins share a common grandmother. That statement means that the theory of evolution is complete nonsense. My cousin and grandmother were both human beings. That is, we are the same species.
For evolution to happen according to its own definition, there must exist an exact moment when one species begets another, both male and female (in higher animals).
If you believe that, you believe in a religion more irrational than any other.
@Lovegrove@xanga - The reason America advanced further than the any other civilization on earth, including our snobby, European brethren, is because we became free of the infection of European ignorance.
Evolution cannot explain how life came from non-living matter, nor how diversity arose out of near 100% homogeneity, nor how a being like homo sapiens arose for whom there is no evolutionary purpose.Contemporary American Christians are keeping the spirit of true philosophical inquiry alive just as Medieval Christians did during the European Dark Age.
Atheism has returned the human mind back to pre-modernity when primitives clung to their superstitions and irrational fears.
@flyfox65@xanga - I've heard of both.
Don't fall for the big monkey hoax! Read this.
