When I was in fourth grade, I was partially homeschooled and partially part of the fourth-grade class at the small Christian, private school that was connected with my church.
Another part of that fourth-grade class? A girl named Katy Hudson, who now goes by the name Katy Perry. You might have heard of her...
The thing is, whatever you think about Katy Perry as an artist or a person (I think she's extremely talented), I can't help thinking about what might have been. Katy has embraced a lifestyle and belief system that are far from the Christianity that was apparently part of her life growing up. She's made a lot of money and been a lot of amazing places, but she's also experienced the heartache of a failed marriage and the loss of faith.
Katy Perry is the same age I am, and I remember the little girl who used to walk the school halls at the same time I did. That got me musing. In the eyes of the world, Katy is way more successful than I am. She's a platinum recording artist and a celebrity. I'm a normal girl with a regular life and a relationship with God that gets me through every day.
I wouldn't trade places.
Did you know that Katy Perry grew up in a Christian home? What are your thoughts on her public criticism of her upbringing? Would you trade places with her?
