  • Brief Thoughts on the Spirit of Truth

    By Roderick Evans

In this post, I just wanted to present some brief thoughts concerning The Spirit of Truth; that is, The Holy Spirit. The Church was established upon the outpouring and release of the Holy Ghost. On the day of Pentecost, God sent the Spirit upon the apostles and disciples who waited for Him in the upper room.

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:1-4)

The entrance of the Spirit of Truth  performed two main tasks among many:

    • The first is that it revealed man’s sin and error. - And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. (John 16:8)

The Holy Spirit’s presence in the Church reminds men that God does have principles (or standards) that have to be followed. He reveals what the Lord requires. Jesus stated that when the Holy Ghost came, He would lead them into all truth. He would reveal Christ to the world.

    • The second is that it brought man into a personal relationship with God. - And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. (Galatians 4:6)

The Spirit of Truth brings men into understanding the nature of God. He reveals to men their relationship and position with God. His presence brings men into the same relationship as Christ before the Father.

Though there are many, many other tasks that the Holy Spirit performs, the above mentioned are foundational to walking with Christ. We know that the Spirit will also empower us for service, comfort, guide, warn, and protect the Christian. We should remember to be grateful that we were not left alone when Jesus returned to the Father.

Grateful!   Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift, given through the Holy Spirit.

Your little tale of fantasy is just another of many from your preferred 100% man concocted Story book!

Are we referring to a personal relationship with God?  Not sure where we're going.  No problem with the day of pentocost and all that.  Perhaps we're talking about speaking in tongues?

So much to say, Composer... but may be too big a task. You should really look into prophecy in the Old Testament, the nature of creation itself, the internal consistency of the Bible through centuries, the deep thought of the Bible as it progresses, and maybe even studies on the transmission of the text.

    But anyway.

I like the translation "Spirit of reality"

I envision Christ as the Good Land the children of Israel were to inhabit, full of all kinds of wonders (water, minerals, sky, flora, fauna), and the Spirit of reality leading us into all this reality for our experience....since the Spirit is just Christ Himself, in a real sense (and hence in the Bible mentions the Spirit of Jesus, the Spirit of Christ, and "the Lord, the Spirit" in 2 Cor. 3:18) We just have no way to mentally comprehend this matter of the Trinity...they certainly are not separate, but co-inherent.
