  • Patience is a Virtue

I realized while I was preaching to the kids about patience that most things Christians say about patience are theologically wrong.

Stop me if I’m wrong, but I guarantee you’ve heard someone say, “Don’t pray for patience. If you do that, God’s only going to send you more people to try your patience.” But when you think of this, it kind of makes God sound like he’s up there maliciously laughing at you, sending you more and more people to annoy you so you can “develop” patience.

Instead, I think that in those times we need patience, we can ask the Holy Spirit to help us exercise patience, and he will.  That’s life with the Spirit.  He helps us in our time of need.

Based on what you know of God and his nature, how do you think he responds to our prayers for patience?  Does he respond by putting us in situations that require extra patience?  Does he respond by sending the Spirit to help us have patience?  When in your life have you had to exercise more patience than you thought you had?
