Christ Jesus dwells in all hearts; it is when we understand this that we can begin to comprehend the statement of Jesus: “Whatever you do to the least, you do unto me”. It is about the radical immanence of God.
For Catholics the Eucharist points to this reality, often hidden from our understanding, the infinite love God has for his children. Each human being is a Tabernacle, the dwelling place of divinity, a light often hidden but there none the less. Love draws out love.
When another human being knows he is loved and accepted, this brings about healing, a lessening of fear. It is sad that many fear Christians because they can come across as hateful and judgmental in ways that we are commanded not to be. One of the greatest forces that impedes the Christian faith and knowledge of Christ Jesus is we Christians.
Conversion is a life long process, not something done on some Friday night at 8PM at a revival -- though of course that can be a very good start. Once the seed is planted, it needs to grow, which means it dies in the soil and is reborn to bear a 30, 60, or a 100 fold.
The more we love, accept others, love them and do not try to force them to change, the greater will be the fruit. We all respond to love; we seek out those who see us and accept us. Why is it, then, so many have fear of us Christians?
If we are called to love, why is it that Christians sometimes get a reputation for being judgmental and hateful? What can we be doing to love others in order to draw out love in them?
