  • If Love Is the Greatest Spiritual Gift

If love is the greatest spiritual gift, then it would seem that, if Christians want to be healers of hearts and souls, then we should pray for this gift, greater even than miracles, which can be flashy and then forgotten in time.

However, to experience being seen and loved by another, to understand that ones depths have been gazed upon and still loved, brings about the deepest of healing; for nothing needs to be hidden.  There is no one outside of God’s love, because God sees the depths of the heart and loves what is seen.

It is true that Jesus got angry at some of the Jews of his time, but his anger was a tool to shake up those who thought themselves the top of the religious ladder.  Many of them did after all come to believe in Jesus; perhaps for the same reason the Samaritan woman became a believer.  They understood that his anger was a form of teaching, trying to unmask what was keeping them isolated from others and unloving.

The easiest thing to do is to look down on others and show contempt, for in doing so it protects us from looking within our own hearts, so that we can learn that what we condemn in others is in reality self hatred for ourselves.

How has being shown love healed you in some way?  How does Jesus righteous anger depict love?  In what ways can you show love to the people around you today?

It's always the same.  Someone telling me about Jesus' anger, so why shouldn't we have all this so called righteous anger at those we consider "less than" good Christians.  But it doesn't give us license to take out our indignation on others because they aren't like us.  We miss his message of the 2nd commandment over and over again, particularly on Christian radio.  The nastiest stuff I've heard since becoming a Christian at 35, and next year I'll be 60.  We can show love by realizing that many denominations are God loving, worthy Christians, and not heathens because they aren't part of the evangelical group.  My friend in choir has a son with two teen daughters who've never been allowed to come and hear her sing at church, because we aren't "them."

Thank you.  I think Jesus tries to flip us over to see how paradoxical his message is, when we become angry or hateful towards others I believe we are missing the point.  Thank you for sharing my friend.

    Peace

I hear this crap about an alleged ' loving god ' so show me the proofs and I'll examine anything you think you have?

I think if you are looking for tangible proof of a loving God, you'll either A: be looking for a very long time, or, B: content with being an atheist.  If you are content with being an atheist, there's no reason to argue with those who are happy with their beliefs.  Dog and pony shows don't come along for those of us who believe.  We do have experiences that we can't explain, such as friends or relatives becoming well from a death defying illness for no apparent reason. If you find fault with people who derive comfort during hard times, such as the death of a child, or other trials, then it's just plain mean.

Everyone knows God exists. Creation and conscience are more than enough to see that, just like Romans 1:18- 23 says. Men supress that truth in unrighteousness. We all have the work of Gods Law written on our hearts. If we have hated someone we are murderers, stolen one thing we are a thief, looked at another person with lust in our hearts we are adulterers. That's only a few of the ten commandments, and we are all guilty of breaking Gods Law. Because God is just, he owes us nothing but His wrath, but He is also kind and patient, not willing that we perish. So how can God be just and allow guilty sinners to go free? He sent His Son to live the life that we couldn't, then go to a cruel cross to take the punishment that we deserved.Gods wrath was poured out on Jesus in place of sinners. If a person will repent (turn from sin) and put thier trust in Jesus, God will commute their death sentemce (hell for eternity) and give them a new heart with new desires. You will then be in right relationship with God and will know Him personally. So to say there is no evidence for a loving God is just silliness. Turn from your sin and run to the God you know exists, and He will recieve you!
