In All Things, Praise Him
I keep being reminded of the story of Job -- this very wealthy man who had just about everything he could ever want, but went through a trial by fire.He had painful boils on his body, and suffered extreme pain.
He lost his children. And then almost everything else.
Needless to say he had every excuse in the book NOT to believe in anything, or anyone.
One thing, however, remained -- his faith in God.
People who thought they were in the right told him to deny God, but he never wavered in his faith.
Job Praised God when things were going good, and continued to remain steadfast when his world crumbled around him.
His story also reminded me that it's not about a 'religion', but rather a story about Faith. Faith is belief that is not based on proof.
Many would like to see proof of God's existence, but that is not faith. Job's friends provided evidence and excuses as to why Job should not believe -- but he remained steadfast in his Faith.
We are reminded through the story of Job that life has it's ups and downs, but having faith in God in spite of whatever it is you're going through, God will bless you abundantly.
What can we learn from the example of Job in the Old Testament? When have you felt like you were going through a difficult time, and how does maintaining your faith in God help you get through these times?

Nice post
I don't think Job's friends were trying to get him to deny God though, I think they were more concerned that Job was claiming to be self-righteous -- Job couldn't understand why he was going through such affliction, as neither him nor his friends heard the conversation between God and the Devil. His friends were convinced that Jobs suffering was a result of sin in his life, which was clearly not the case. Job was justified in defending himself against the false accusations of insensitive friends, however, he was not justified in accusing God of being unjust (and he repents for those accusations in Job 42) -- but he never cursed God, and thus he proved Satan wrong.@IcECaT123@xanga - God allows the Devil to test His children (the process of sanctification), just as Jesus was tested by the Devil.... it was not a bet, and it would be incorrect to associate evil with God.
