  • Don't Let Your Talents Go to Waste

God gives us gifts and talents for a reason. Have you ever let any of them go to waste? I know I have. Once we have a talent we need to practice it, or we will lose it.

My talent is percussion -- and for those who are musically declined that means I can play the drums. Not too long ago I was feeling as if percussion was for me. Yes I was fairly good at it inside the school band, but I needed something more to it. It became work and lost its fun.

So instead of letting my skill drop from my hands, I searched for what I was missing, and God gave me an opportunity. He made the drummer for my youth groups worship team get too old for youth group. At first I was unsure if it was the right thing, so I cautiously seemed interested. Then God showed me a miracle -- the art of a rhythmically challenged guitar player, performing on the drum set for the worship team.

The first week of me being on the worship team sucked. I won't lie. It was a new form of playing for me, but I needed it. My talent, from remaining stagnant for so long in learning how to increase my skill, actually began to go to waste. I had to begin my growing cycle all over again. Slowly I fed myself with new practice styles and new rhythms. And instead of me using my skills to perform for an audience, I performed for only one being. God.

Playing started as a chore. Then it became a habit. Then it became my lifestyle. And now it is worship.

Once I began to worship the LORD with my talent, I quickly obtained a skill level on the drum set I never thought possible. No longer am I the crappy performer. Now I am an amazing worshiper for god. Playing is my ministry. It is what I am called to do.

If I had not followed Gods path would I have ever reached this level in worshiping? Even bigger than myself, would I have ever gotten to the point where I can help bring others to worship with me?

Don’t let a talent die. God gives them to us with a purpose in mind.

What talents has God given you?  Are they going to waste right now?  What can you do to pursue using the talents God has given you?

    uh-huh

I have been dealing with using my talents too. I want to be used by the Lord to the fullest of my abilities. I don't know what that is right now. Yesterday I signed up for summer classes just to hear today that my class got cancelled. Well,I took it as a sign from God that I must minister. I don't know where or how but I must minister. It is hard for me to give up school but if it is the will of God then it must be done. I would to come out of college with a degree that the Lord could use for his glory but that is not what the Lord wants for me right now.

my talents are illegal! I have no choice!

@tst08@xanga -  everyone has talents that are always there. some take time to shine through. mine are still opening up to me. it takes time to know your talents. some of your talents could be considered illegal.but maybe you could use the same talent and use it for something that is not illegal. I don't know what your talents are. but i do know that everything you have the capability to do can be used for god. just keep working on searching for your skills. we all have hidden talents. maybe you should look for those.

@jordon - sometimes my talents are on vacation, or in the penalty box. Some, I have to meticulously brainwash my peers into recognizing, because ordinarily they wouldn't value them. Blackmail works well in convincing people the value of christian virtues, like having spiritual gifts and caring about people. If it's not evil, and doesn't "make sins" then most people aren't interested in it. It's the antichrist's economy, or so most people want you to think.

either stay indoors or turn your kids into whores. that's all there is to do. church or bathhouse orgy, church or bathhouse orgy?
People are tired of being called evil for not being christian, so they just do all kinds of evil and get rewarded for it by God because God hates you all for being shallow jews. the end. later

    It is very
sad to me that many Christians look down upon to sinners. I know that the world
is slowly getting further away from god in almost every way. And those who are
still with god disown those who don't. They are judgmental jerks that don't
know the real reasons as to why they should be Christian. They should be
Christian to help people. And on not meaning to point out others sins so they
can correct them. Sometimes people just need to help by showing that someone
really does care. Maybe sometimes instead of standing on the table and yelling
'you are all sinners' maybe they should be hanging out with the sinners and
show them by example why it is that god is good. One big issue is that people
often time point out what’s wrong with sin and not what’s right about god.
Instead of pointing out faults, those who walk with Christ would be proving to
others just why it is exactly, that they serve Jesus. I wish people would
understand how much better it would be if instead of mocking the bad, they were
to praise the righteous and show to others why they have good faith.

    • About Me: I am a full time christian seeking to help others know more about god and to even get to know god. I am only 17 but wisdom comes through experience, and experience can come from age. But god calls us all no matter our age. If he is using us for his glory then age means nothing. I currently am apart of my youth groups worship team playing the drums. And as a future career i want to become a youth pastor just like the ones i look up to.
