• A Romantic Pursuit of God

  "O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water." --King David
  
  There is a table set before God's people, a table from which our lover calls to us from, and we hear the call from the very depths of our souls. A table set and prepared before the foundations of the world was brought forth, and before the seas raised their heads to embrace the shores. Before the mountains and before the valleys there was inside of the mind of God a perfect idea, of a flawless and endlessly blissful relationship. A relationship that would be shared with a man, a man made in his own image and likeness.

  This man was created by his lover with an almost insatiable, unquenchable thirst and hunger for the Mystery, the embrace, and the affection for Him, the Lover. The man's internal temperature was that of pure fever towards the Lover, towards His God, towards his beautiful treasure; and the desire shared between man and the Lover was all together supernatural. Time stood still when He and the Lover were together, walking hand in hand inside of the Lovers Garden of plenty. No interruptions to cause man to lose focus on his lovers beauty, no distractions that would break the two's concentration on one another; Perfect fellowship, perfect harmony, the perfect romance.

  God, our husband:

  The picture of a Husband and a wife is indeed a picture of the kind of relationship that God has with us. We are to Him what a loving Husband is to his wife; as a matter of fact, the bible teaches us that the church is the bride of Christ. I would imagine that some of the details above, of the Lover and man, possibly made some of you uncomfortable simply because most of that kind of intimacy is characteristically shared between a Husband and wife. This is where I would like to go against the stream and introduce a somewhat new concept or practice on this matter where our relationship with God is normally pretty mechanical.

  God Is seeking intimacy with each of us and He wants to break the established robotic form of Worship, or the ritualistic form (Anything done with in the church building but not at home) and give us a new perspective on spending time with Him and loving Him. Romance (platonic intimate encounter) with Jesus is what Jesus has always from the very beginning desired with us. The definition of romance is: "A feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love."

  King David knows what I'm saying here about romance with God, he said this to the Lord:
  ''I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.'' (Psalms 63:6-8)
  ''Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.'' (Psalms 63:3)
  ''One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.'' (Psalms 27:4)
  ''As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God; My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?'' (Psalms 42:1-2) 

  Intimacy and romance with God is simply laying all your emotions and feelings out to God verbally and mentally -- we need to learn how to verbally talk to Him. Romance with God is arranging and preparing a quite reflective spot somewhere and getting alone with Him daily simply to enjoy Him and talk to and communicate with Him. Talk to Him about your day (Yes, He wants to hear about your day too, every little detail), about the sweet old lady in the store that you meet, He wants to hear about the crazy young buck who cut you off in traffic as well, and the feelings that situation generated.  

  Romance is recognizing and acknowledging that He is in the room with you when you’re reading His love letter to you every day (the bible) and that He is talking to you directly from it. It’s talking to Him in the car simply because you love Him and want to spend time with Him. It’s talking to Him at the gym and on the way to and from work. It's the feeling that you can't wait to get alone with Him, because of the cravings that He satisfies. Get creative and Love God today, He wants to be so close to us, so intimate with us, He longs for romance with His creation. Of course this habit will not come automatically, talking to God all day and throughout the day will feel weird at times in the beginning, and even forced; but focus on trying to intentionally seeking Him, and trust His word: "Come near to God and he will come near to you..." (James 4:8)

  Ephesians 3:17-19

  ''so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,and to know this love that surpasses knowledge -- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.''

  In what ways in your life can you began to seek romance with Jesus? Is Jesus, to you, worth the time and effort in gaining a deeper intimacy with Him? What do you think romance with God would produce in your life?
