There is some really good Christian rap, and there is some really horrific Christian rap.
The other night, Dan and I were having a laugh about this video in particular:
The use of autotune is horrific -- well, the whole song is pretty resoundingly amateur including the cinematography.
It honestly sounds like Rebecca Black. Or maybe, more like a grown man trying to sound like a Justin Beiber. I don't know what the hoot is about with autotune, people should be banned from using it unless they are Kanye West or Sufjan Stevens.
And then there was another video by the same guy with some even worse lyrics:
"We coming up like a helicopter, we dropping on the Devil. GOTCHA."
I don't know how anyone could take it seriously. He sounds like some country hick who hasn't realised World War 2 is over, and still loves dropping bombs on the Nazis or something. The obsession with the war motif is rather scary.
I should probably put a disclaimer: no offense (whatever that means).
What do you think about these songs and videos? Is there something to be said for good intentions, or are these just really good examples of how not to make Christian music? What are some examples of good Christian music that is out right now?
