  • Crazy Love: Are You Enough for Jesus?

All my life -- up until last week or so -- I've always thought that I was supposed to live my life, going through it doing my own thing but just following a set of rules and acknowledging God here and there through my long day. I never felt full only feeling God here and there, as I was also doing the same to Him. I always thought something wasn't right but wasn't really sure; I always said, "I guess this is just how it is, God cant be with you always right?"

I got a hold of a book that's changed my life forever, I have found my missing piece of the puzzle. The book is called Crazy Love, by Francis Chan. It talks about how us as Christians today are doing so much wrong, only giving God the leftovers of our life as He does so much for us. But we are too ill-minded to realize it. We think, "Oh I gave a little today and prayed for half a second earlier; I've done my will for God." In all reality He wants us all the time, not just five seconds of our day.

We are so involved in running our own life for our own selves that we for get about what Jesus said "take up your cross and follow me." We do not do that in our day; we give him little attention as we go about having fun watching silly TV shows and buying things for ourselves, caring for the world more than Jesus. In Chan's word's "we live Lukewarm."

This is what Jesus has to say about being "lukewarm:"

    Revelation 3:15-17 NIV
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.

Surely it doesn't sound like He is too enthusiastic about the idea, does it? So what we need to do as Christians is do what Jesus said, "pick up your cross and follow me." Do what He would want you to do. Acknowledge Him as your Lord and savior. Do his will, and stop worrying about yourself and face reality. You aren't here on this earth to live the life you want -- you are here to live the life Jesus wants you to. Don't live lukewarm but put your all into Him, that is  what he wants.

Have you ever read Crazy Love?  What did you learn from the book?  When have you been lukewarm in your relationship with God, and what can you do to grow closer to Him?

Jesus is pretty cool, I don't love him though.

I haven't read this book, but when I was in novitiate and praying about taking my first vows of perpetual poverty, chastity and obedience, Jesus words of "pick up your cross and follow me" echoed in my thoughts and prayers constantly. In the end, though, as I realized how much He loved me first, I couldn't stand NOT giving my entire life and every part of it over to Him, and the last four years since have been the most amazing and joyful--but also the most challenging--of my whole life.

"We are so involved in running our own life for our own selves that we for get about what Jesus said "take up your cross and follow me." We do not do that in our day..." Many don't, true, but if you'd like to see examples of people who have check out the following:

@Lordv16@xanga - well are you looking to be closer to Jesus or help on Loving him?

  • Lordv16@xanga

@jcravens - Na not really. Love is a bit much. I think the relationship we have is fine where it is.

@Lordv16@xanga - well you Loving God is a huge thing in the bible. Luke 10:27 says  And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

I know its a hard concept to grab as see I am still working on it very much too but from what I have read it takes your relationship with God to a whole new level in many ways
  • Lordv16@xanga

@jcravens - See, that may be, but I don't know Luke. I will never know Luke, so I don't think his opinion should dictate the terms of my relationship. Or what it "should" be.

I see it as this, how can he know more about my relationship with my god than I do?

@Lordv16@xanga - Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are the Gospels. They tell the story of our Lord Jesus Christ. and that message was said by Jesus himself. He knows all about your relationship with God. I dont mean any harm by saying this but it seems you are missing out on a big part of the bible, the story of Christ. I would recommend definately reading it and Gaze upon Jesus' life and all the great blessings and miracles he has done. thanks for the reply again

@jcravens - I have too many issues with the bible to be honest. I feel like the true and most genuine meaning has been lost to modification and the inevitable bias of man. The book, I feel, is of man. While what I have with Jesus, is between the two of us.

@Lordv16@xanga - Have you ever read one of the last paragraph in revelations? revelations 22:19

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

God has already thought about this he definately took that very seriously. See alot of people use that excuse because all other people do. I bet they dont even know what there talking about they all have some weird answere to why they believe this. (I used to believe this too for a stupid reason before I really started connecting to God) He wouldnt let this happen nor I doubt anyone would dare do so. You should check out this study bible I got its called The apologetics study bible. It blows all skepticism out of the water and proves it with reall evidence I think it could do you very well.
