Love the Sinner: Prisoners Still Deserve Respect
[This is reposted as part of our Best-Of Revelife Week. It was originally posted on May 14, 2010.]I recently noticed a group on Facebook called 'Why Test on Animals When We Have Pedophiles in Prison'. I'm offended at the blatant disregard for human life this group exhibits. I am personally involved in the life of many of these 'pedophiles in prison' on a regular basis. These men are just that -- men. Sinners, who need a Savior. Men who need one of us to give them the message (how shall they hear without a preacher?).
The idea that pedophiles are sub-human or undeserving of respect is deplorable in light of the Gospel message which has saved us in spite of our sin (and while we were still participating in it).
I cannot condone, or defend, what they have done, but because of the convicting power of the Holy Spirit I do believe they deserve more respect than this particular group offers them.
Have you ever done prison ministry or known someone who was in prison? How can we share the love of Christ with prisoners rather than condemn them?

This is simple and good.
I completely agree.
I would say that pedophile prisoners have shown a great deal of "blatant disregard for human life", and their victims were completely innocent whereas they are not.
@Melissa___Dawn@xanga - Irrelevant to the post, which notes the reprehensible nature of the offence.
