My Thoughts on the Christian Nation
I get really confused with the term, "Christian nation". I really don't know what that's supposed to mean. I mean, what does a Christian nation look like? How does a Christian nation reflect Christ's teachings? What role does the "freedom of religion" play in a Christian nation? What theology does a Christian nation prescribe to?I believe that God is too big to be reflected by a single nation... or even many nations for that matter. No nation can really represent God. God tried that once before, and it didn't work too well. One of the great things about God's gift to us in Jesus Christ is that there is no longer a nation where God is manifested. Instead, He becomes manifested in the individual, and in a larger scale, the church.
When you hear the words, "Christian nation", what do you think of?

LOL you are gonna get all kinds of crazy replies.
When I think of Christian nation I think of ugly old sexually repressed church elder sticking his big fat nose into my bedroom and me pulling back my 357 and making an example out of him and proving that he screwed up when he didn't vote for Ron Paul!
I don't think God failed with Israel. I'm sure that isn't what you meant to imply, of course. But, there definitely is not a Christian nation. There are just some nations that are worse than others. And, oddly enough, I think the ones that appear to be the best are just best at hiding their national sins, and they accept their public sins.
Americans have a very simplistic view of what is right and wrong about the leadership of their country. It's an incredibly complex issue to understand, and in fact we cannot understand it by what most of us are fed by news organizations whose motivation is greed.
We have several serious contenders from the GOP next year. Perry, Romney, and Bachmann. yet all of these will pass legislation which robs the poor and middle class while giving tax breaks to the wealthy and large corporations.Contrast this with what Jesus taught and any honest Christian must admit it does not line up. the entire GOP will do most anything, even blatantly contradict themselves to remove Obama from office for the simple reason that he is half black. If they could only see the true human face that Jesus wore, they should be ashamed of themselves. http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/blogs/a/m/americandad/2010/03/an-open-letter-to-conservative.php
Indeed I feel there is a "Cristian Nation".....but it is not America, it is not Israel, It is not even the Vatican. There is a American nation but there are Americans all over the world, a good portrion of those people live in North America in place called the United States. I firmly believe that I can walk into Germany, France, China, even Viet Nam and find part of the Christian Nation. So when I think of a Christian Nation I think of people who believe in and do their best to adhere to the teachings of Christ.
when i hear "Christian Nation" i think, "Uh-oh, time to apply for grad school in Canada so they won't burn me at the stake."
Was Christ an American? Did he espouse ideologies that would strangle the poor, remove the middle class, and absolve huge corporations of any taxes? Were he here on earth today, would he do whatever he could to "kneecap" public schools, and only favor home schools? Would he only find righteousness within the ranks of women who only wear dresses, and never cut their hair? We have successfully boxed Christ into a works corner in America, clearly misunderstanding any meaning whatsoever of the second commandment.
@Pollypinks@xanga - it sounds like your Jesus is a democrat.
America is a Christian nation only in the sense that a majority of the people claim to follow Christ, although only a fraction really take his words seriously. If we mean that Jesus is the leader of our country, we might as well get rid of democracy, because I sure didn't see Jesus taking polls on what he should say or do.
@Da__Vinci@xanga - THIS.
but because those candidates are anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage they get the "religious" vote.
Christian candidates know how to play the game. The fact that they vote for heinous legislation once elected proves they are not pro-life. You cannot claim to be pro-life only to protect the fetus. You have to protect the children and adults too. And these people clearly have little intention of doing that. They'd all have us go back to the days of Herbert Hoover, if they could. Time for another big depression, and blame it on the poor people, naturally.
@DominatingThinspo@xanga - And then, of course, this sexually repressed Christian elder later found vacationing in the Bahamas with a twink found on rentaboy.com.
We are considered a Christian nation because our nation was founded by predominantly Christian men who instilled Christian values into our culture.
@AncoraImparo@xanga - Hahaha! Yes! Those hot little Twinks get em every time!
@Theophilus166@xanga - it sounds like your Jesus is a democrat.
Us "true" Christians are wise and discerning enough to know that a "true" Christian is a republican not a devil worshiping possessed liberal right???
@Sammysosa76@xanga - I recommend that you actually use that noodle between your ears before you insert your foot in your mouth http://dominatingthinspo.xanga.com/753425604/founding-fathers-were-not-christians/
@Sammysosa76@xanga - If they were christian and from my reading at history, they weren't really christian per say but more like deists.
@Hinase@xanga - YES THEY WERE! Thank you!
@DominatingThinspo@xanga - No problem. It's pretty common knowledge they are instead of christian but I am surprised a lot of people disregard common knowledge like that. I'm christian myself but I'm not going to rewrite history like that for my own gain. History is what it is.
A naton that is a lot more loving and kinder to poor people than what most Christian nations (both past and present) have been.
@DominatingThinspo@xanga - I'm not a republican either, and I don't think Jesus would subscribe to any party. It's just funny that all the things you said Jesus would be also happens to be the democratic platform.
@Theophilus166@xanga - OK I understand. It was the other guy who said that. I think Jesus would vote for Ron Paul
"What do you think we should do about these terrorists who attacked us?"
"Turn the other cheek." -MLK from the cartoon 'The Boondocks'
That's a Christian Nation.
christian nation to me is the church. The church world wide, the full body with christ the head.
I think of American culture. We know for a fact that the Founding Fathers designed the weakest, yet most effective government possible.
A theocracy is a strong form of government which is a tyranny.
I don't know of any Christians who favor turning the US government into a theocracy.
@DominatingThinspo@xanga - Also, Thomas Jefferson was not at all fond of christianity in general.
"Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man."
~Jefferson
And that's just one of his many quotes on the subject.
