Christian Behavior: Acting Out on the Internet
Twice, I came across this picture within two weeks. I don't remember what this was about, but this was found on a friend's facebook page.
I was shocked to read some of these comments. I cannot comprehend the mindset of someone who loves their faith, loves their God, but has the heart and no guilt to wish rape upon people who do not share their same belief. From my background, I was taught to love your neighbor and your enemy. Yes, in the end God will judge us all and those who believe in him and his word will be saved. But, were we not taught to live like Christ? I think it is wrong to use your faith to justify violence. I firmly believe that Christ would NEVER wish rape or death because a group of people choose not to believe in Him.
Maybe I missed something in mass. Maybe I missed a book in the Bible about this kind of behavior. But, I do not promote this behavior. I think this behavior puts a foul name in the Christian faith.
Do you know someone with this behavior? Do you think this is okay behavior for Christians?

Hypocrisy is the norm.
I think I will blog about this!
@PinkLeopards@xanga - @mtngirlsouth@xanga - No chuch going fundie I know would ever post such over the top comments. That picture, and others like it, have been circulating all over the internet on atheisim sites. It is a hoax. It does not reflect reality and is only meant to inflame passions and tensions. I am embarrased by this hoax and would encourage my fellow free thinkers to stop perpetrating it. This hoax is not helpful. The Granite Sage

@granitesage@xanga - That thought had occurred to me as well.
I've seen FB statuses with the Devil, the Pope & God. I certainly do not believe those. I'm going to say that this must be one of those as well.
If it isn't, then I honestly do not think that those people know what it is to be Christian. Christian translates into Christ follower, literally. You cannot follow Christ by wishing pain & death upon people. We're all human & we all make mistakes. However, something as awful as that up there is not excusable by simple anger. That's evil they're spewing. It is hard for me to believe that any Christian (in which the Spirit of Christ dwells) could feel that way, think that way or speak/type/write that way. It is NOT okay, nor is it Christian nor Christ like.
@MyTwoCentss@xanga - Absolutely right!! I don't see how anyone can understand grace and say things like that. Clearly, they don't understand that the only reason they are Christians is because God chose to open their eyes.
This makes me so angry...I won't even begin to explain.
granitesage is probably correct about this being a hoax but some of the attitudes expressed by Christians towards those of an opposing opinion is just as bad. Christianity has been far too politicized and Christians are usually encouraged to act out and rewarded, rather than shamed, for doing so. The art of disagreeing nicely is lost on them as a whole.
@granitesage@xanga - Or it could just be a bunch of Christian hypocrites. I know plenty of fundies like this. You Christians can't just keep claiming "oh... they're not one of us..." every time you fuck up.
@PinkLeopards@xanga - you will never see Christians admit when nonChristians are around, but this is probably the way they feel about most atheist groups. Most want to say they are better than us nonChristians but they're not.
I've had Christians tell me one step below that bad, really worse and they wondered why they lost friends. Christians have some of the most hateful things to say to/about non Christians.
@dream_guru5@xanga - Oh I know they do, trust me lol. This one group of Christians went on a rant about atheists while we were on our way to the grocery store. Funny how they assumed I was Christian. I railed into them about their ignorance.
this is pretty bad, actually never seen commentary quite that awful, and talk of this sort is probably one of the big reasons people end up being very turned off by the very idea of Christianity. If people practiced what they preach half as often as they should, in general the world would be a less vitriolic place.
Just as a head's up you should probably be blurring out the names and possibly photos like the majority of sites do with facebook photo captures- you can run into some legal trouble if the people you've posted find out you've been putting these up on a site with a decent amount of traffic. Example of what I mean: http://www.notracistbut.com/
[edit: someone else said this was a hoax and not actually a real
picture, but for future use, if you suspect these are real people, I
highly recommend photoshopping out the personal information.]
I think it's sickening behavior. It's hypocrisy at it's finest. I have a hard time believing in the Christian faith primarily because most of what I have seen around me were hypocrites. I'd be one too if I tried to follow the faith because I have a serious potty mouth. I can put aside my sexual impulses towards men and women, especially on these meds, but can't control my mouth. I smoke cigars too. I also catch myself judging others lately, which later makes me feel ashamed. Anyway, what you are talking about is hypocrisy. If they are going to claim the faith, they should act in it, not in the devil's way. Thou shalt not kill.
You want an example? Check posts on your own page. I'll give you a hint, part of the title is, "A Rant." Check the comments. It's amazing how "Christian" people can be.
I remember similar Christian behaviour and comments when Osama was killed. I don't believer it's EVER okay for a person to wish death on someone else, "evil" or not. We see Christians saying judgmental and hypocritical things all the time and it's no wonder people aren't interested in what we have to say. It's not like we're immune to giving judgment, but we're supposed to at least try not to.
Hoax. Test whether this is a hoax for yourself. Go to Facebook and search for Joseph Sneckenberg. If his profile comes up as a ranting Christian killer then maybe the picture is real. If not then the picture is a hoax. Look at how all the timestamps in the picture are nonsequential. This is not a Facebook screenshot. It is a hoax. The comments are not even from real Facebook patrons. Hoax.
@granitesage@xanga - So apparently you don't know how screenshots work. This is clearly a compilation of some of the worst comments (said at different times). That does not make it a hoax, it just makes it out of context (not that there is an appropriate context for any of those comments). But personally I believe everyone of those comments was written by a "Christian" at one point or another, because I've seen "christians" write worse things on my wall personally.
@granitesage@xanga - it may be hoax, but my Southern Baptist grandmother is living proof that there are some Christians who exist and share these sentiments.
what i don't understand is why Christians are so quick to disown this behavior. according to their religion, God sending me (an agnostic) to Hell to burn for eternity because i am not Christian is an example of His divine love and justice. it only makes sense that His followers would be just as "loving" in this life as He is in the next.
@granitesage@xanga - http://www.examiner.com/atheism-in-atlanta/loving-christians-respond-to-american-atheists-wtc-case
@too_pretty_to_die@xanga - I don't believe G-D is sending you to hell. Sorry so many of us missed the teachings of Christ and spew hate. I am quick to disown it because it's not the Christ I know.
Christians, like everyone else, has to vent. Violent hyperbole doesn't really mean they'd go outside, hunt down an atheist, and actually hurt him.
Not all of Christianity or Christians should be judged by scattered acts of cathartic immaturity.
@granitesage@xanga - Many many people have independently confirmed or attested to the facts of the comments.
Besides, use your common sense judgement. It is much liklier that some of the many Americans pissed off at the suing atheists expressed how they really felt than some vast atheistic conspiracy to sully Christians through fabricated accounts, comments, and articles.
