Francis Chan's Erasing Hell
By Matthew at Jesus Needs New PR
Nah, I’m sure Chan loves hell. He has a book about it coming out in July.
The book is called Erasing Hell.
In the above book trailer, Chan wildly expresses his thoughts about hell using only his facial muscles while standing in a white room.

I'd rather read a book by this guy on Hell than one Rob Bell wrote using pretty shabby biblical study.
His facial muscles is the way the potter molded him for His glory. :D
My problem with Bell's book was that he doesn't write in complete sentences.
I have two thoughts, and not to draw trolls (because I KNOW there are a bunch waiting to jump out on this topic), but...
1. Nothing about the biblical Hell is as black and white as we'd like to think. And when we do see in black and white, we come up with so many more problems to deal with. No view is perfect; we're not going to figure it out until we get there (so to speak!).
2. No, I wouldn't think that either of these guys count as solid theologians, and there are very few people whose views I would respect on the topic. However, I don't think we need theologians to do biblical study on Hell right now. We need to get the message out that God loves everyone and wants everyone to do what is Good and Right. Personally, I don't think the doctrine of Hell is the way to do that right now--more of a message of Love is. But, to some people, fear still seems to be the best way to spread the Word. There's a place for both books, but it's certainly not on the same shelf as the Bible.
@Preachrkid88@xanga - ditto. my bias comes into play, because I ADORE Chan and I've always considered Bell to be pretty heretical
This title got me so worried.
@Katja88@xanga - It's not about hell or love, it's about what the bible teaches. And it teaches both. If you neglect either one, you're misrepresenting the God of scripture. We can't make the mistake Bell did, and create a dichotomy and force people to choose between one or the other. You talk about a message of love being the best way to spread "The Word." However, "The Word" you're talking about spreading is one in which hell is a reality.
While the details of hell aren't necessarily black and white, the reality of hell is when it comes to scripture. We don't get a ton of details on it, but scripture does use words like 'eternal' and 'torment.' Bell did a poor exegetical job on those passages, and didn't even address major passages about hell (for example, 2 Thessalonians 2:5-10.) Simply because we don't understand all of it, or even a lot of it, doesn't mean that what we do know isn't true.
Preaching the gospel without talking about hell is like trying to get people away from the beach without telling them there's a tsunami coming. You can use all the positive imagery you want, and explain how nice it is somewhere else, but until they see a problem with where they are and the direction things are going, it's not going to be extremely effective.
@Preachrkid88@xanga - Sadly, the original poster agrees with Bell, and will criticize anyone who doesn't.
@brooke@healthkicker - That is because he is.
@Theophilus166@xanga - Good points.
Why is this post so hateful? Why don't you want people to believe in hell?
Somehow, I understood everything his face was saying. :/
