Does Scripture Support Smoking Pot?
By Matthew at Jesus Needs New PR
Well… one Facebook group says yes. The group Every Seed Bearing Plant suggests that Genesis 1:29 offer biblical support for the extracurricular use of marijuana.“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” Genesis 1:29.
The group’s mission is simple: Establishing the God connection to the Marijuana, Poppy and Coca plant, and why it is against God’s law to make any plant illegal.
You can read more about this group’s high agenda here.

I love how the advertisement under this was "GROW YOUR OWN" "NOW AT HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE!" "GROWERS GOLD!!!"
In other news, some people read scripture with no regard for context.
Smoking pot is also illegal in many states and provinces (if not all provinces) and God says many times in the Bible that we are not to break the law, we are to follow it. Just my view point :)
I completely agree with the stance that group takes....which is why I plan to rub my eyes and anus with poison oak, smoke a few joints, and then consume some tasty hemlock!
What about
Stinging nettle?
Jack in the pulpit?
rhubarb?
Common vetch?
eastern Skunk Cabbage?
Nightshade?
Belladonna?
Elderberry?
Ragwort?
Black locust?
Wisteria?
pokeweed?
Star of Bethlehem?
moonseed?
I could go on but I won't. All of the above are poisonous. Some only certain parts like the seed, and others are so deadly, that you can't have any of it. So, if God has given us ALL seed bearing plants, then these would not be poisonous. My only thought, is that this was before the ground was cursed because of the sin of Adam. God said he would have to work, and that the ground would produce thorns and thistles. Perhaps, the plants that are poisonous, are because of the curse, and God was hoping that we would be smart of enough to stay away from them?
@ProudToBeAChristianFruitcake@xanga - Except for the part where marijuana isn't poisonous...
@GettingClosertoFine@xanga - to use a verse, that says God gave us the plants that bear seed for food, therefore marijuana is good. leaves out the plants that fit the description but are not food. if the verse is true and therefore marijuana is good becuse of this verse, then there would be no poisonous plants that also fit the description. either the verse is all true, or it is not.
God also demands that we always be mindful of Him, that we serve and love one another, that we obey His commandments...can a person do this when they are high or stoned? I don't think so...
But your body is the temple of God.
"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within
you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought
with a price. So glorify God in your body." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
"Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells
in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's
temple is holy, and you are that temple." 1 Corinthians 3:16-17
The Bible "supports" knowing Christ (John 17:3).
Using it in this way is actually legalistic, ironically.
@ProudToBeAChristianFruitcake@xanga - Well yeah, I agree using that verse is silly, when justifying smoking pot. I think smoking it is okay, but it's not this verse I turn to explain this to other people.
But on a side point, I wouldn't classify drugs alongside poisons. My argument against using that particular verse is that to use it would be completely missing its point. The point, in my opinion is, "Look at this bounty I've given you!" But when smokers use it to justify their smoking, it's like the point has become "It is appropriate to use every plant however you want, regardless of its effects of others!"
((On more of a sidenote: My only problem with pot is that some people don't like smelling it or being around it, so I think there should be designated smoking places, like we do with cigarettes.))
I'm slightly surprised that it's the pot smoking Christians who are also trying to pass laws based on what they see as Christian morality. Should the Christian (as opposed to the average American) push for the public purchase and use of marijuana to be legalized? I don't see a good argument for it.
The Greek lexicon implies Genesis 1:29 is talking about a herb for the food of man.
The point everyone should make is that Genesis 1:29 is before the curse so if something was cursed, would you still want and think it was still good? It is obviously cursed.
I'm sure there are much better verses/ general Biblical principles to support that... when they use Gen 1 29, it's obvious to everyone that's stretching it, which makes us wary of the idea....
The fact is, it's illegal. Which I'm going to have to accept, for now at least.
If that does change... I'm not sure if I'd think it was sin or not. If pot is still associated with shadiness or ..well, unrighteousness in general, it's probably not wise, but if it socially becomes as normal as cigarettes (but kills the body less!), and the motives aren't escape or to act like a moron, I might take it up with a clear conscience. In small small doses. For rejeuvination and anti-anxiety and the like.
The short answer is "NO Way!" Anyone who thinks otherwise is either not regenerate ("born from above"/"born again") or is deceived by the "father of lies". Revelation 22:14-15
@AngelAsh_86@xanga - Good scripture verses. God bless you. You're "spot on" sister ("right on" in U.S.)!
@Ancient_Scribe@xanga - I agree with you 100% bro.!
Marijuana has proven benefits for treating medical conditions. The reason it's illegal is to protect pharmaceutical companies that sell patented chemicals.
uh... Yeah doesnt God say to Repect the laws of the land? OR something of the like.. And there you have it!
@blonde_apocalypse@xanga - Sad but true.
@blonde_apocalypse@xanga - And because when prohibition ended, a bunch of drug enforcement didn't have shit to do. So they made weed illegal because it was the drug of the lowest socioeconomic class. Marijuana is actually a name made up by the government to slander the plant. It was known by most as cannabis and was given to people for medical reasons, and they knew if they called it that, people wouldn't support its prohibition. So they called it marijuana because it sounds Mexican, and they could link it Mexican cartels and shit.
@CecilliaMarie@xanga - @theunknowndarkness1@xanga - This is not an unconditional instruction. Many times have followers of God been instructed to disobey the laws and then blessed by God for their disobedience. The Christian must make an evaluation of the laws, whether they be godly or not. I'm not convinced this particular idea (pot should be legal because God said plants are good for us) is pure or logical, but neither is the idea that we should blindly follow laws simply because they exist.
@Liquid_Pain_523@xanga - gotta love it when our government uses our irrational prejudices against us to get us to go along with its corruption.
@blonde_apocalypse@xanga - Yep. That's why it makes me laugh when people say we have to follow the law of the land just because some racist idiot decided back in the day that the law should be as it is. People don't want to ask questions, they want to be told things.
