  • Please, Hidden God

    Please show Yourself, Hidden God
Shrouded in the mystery of ages, covered
by the dust of feet and the leather of books that
    had no business being written

    Please show Yourself, Hidden God
where I cannot go. My fingers type
on a white screen, but You reside
    behind veils, in temples, knocking

    Please show Yourself, Hidden God
I want to be a lamp, but my light
cannot penetrate so far, so deep, so dark.
Make your Spirit known behind the curtain.

    Satan taunting, haunting, pointing
at impossible faces pressed against hope, trying
to see inside the door of what could be, but constantly
pulled back by the hands of the blind

    Hidden God, Yahweh, Adonai
My hands are too small to reach across
the span of culture, history, and the pain
    of yesterday, last hour

I cannot reach far enough, but Your hands are infinite
I cannot speak loud enough, but Your voice created galaxies
I cannot love long enough, but Your love saved a world
Please, I beg You, be hidden no more

Do any stanzas in this poem strike you more than others? How has God revealed himself to you lately?

And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.(Luke 17:20-21, Matthew 7:24, James 1:22)

    Peace

So for what it is worth.....here are my thoughts.......

I hear your heart wanting more of God.....but the verses that speak of Him hiding Himself, or being hidden behind veils are not what Scripture speaks to me.  Psalm 19:1-6 states, “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.” Romans 1:18-21 declares, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” Furthermore, God has revealed Himself through His Son Jesus Christ. The veil you speak about was torn apart on the Cross.....And of course He has revealed Himself in His Word......Scripture speaks about who God is, how He thinks, what is important to Him, etc.
As far as the hands of the blind pulling back those who hope and are pressed up against the door, the Bible is quite clear on this.....Satan has no such power....yes he is full of deception and speaks lies, but he doesn't have the power to pull anyone away from God. Jesus says in John 10 27-29....My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father who has given them to me is greater than ll; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.
To call God a Hidden God.....is calling Him something He is not, because He has revealed Himself. Also, you don't have to beg God to be hidden no more.....He promises that if we seek Him with our whole hearts....He WILL be found. And when we come to Christ, He promises the Holy Spirit who will guide us into all Truth.
So I encourage you, it is God's pleasure to reveal Himself (Eph 1:9). He is knocking at your door......you don't have to knock at His and beg to come it.

Jeremiah 29:12 - it sounds like that's what you are doing, and He promises to be found. believe that.

@JimBob - I want to share the reason for this poem.

It's not actually about my search for God. It is about my close Muslim friends who live in countries where God is hidden from them by oppressive systems and the way they've been brought up. (the dust of feet and the leather of books that had no business being written) That's also why it talks about veils and temples. I am talking about specific people in specific places. The curtain is also literal-I am referring to places that bar the Gospel from being spoken.

A couple of days ago, one of my friends was in a crisis, and I was able to share the gospel with them. The stanza about being jerked back by blind people was specifically about this situation. Even while I was sharing Jesus, another Muslim basically reached out their hand and jerked this person back to the path of orthodox Islam.

I have been found by God. My friends are still searching within a faith that denies His personal power and love. I was speaking for them. I pray daily for Him to reveal Himself to their hungry hearts.

@spokenfor@xanga - See my reply to JimBob above. That will explain a little more about what the poem is about

@AOK4WAY@xanga - Great verses! Very encouraging.

This poem is actually about friends who live in places where the Gospel is often hidden. These verses are a great reminder to me that Jesus in me is God's way of sending the Gospel to them.

"I want to be a lamp, but my light
cannot penetrate so far, so deep, so dark."

"My hands are too small to reach across
the span of culture, history, and the pain
    of yesterday"

    but especially...
"Please, I beg You, be hidden no more"

    Did you write this?

  • Pickwick12@xanga

@JstNotherDay@xanga - I did. Thank you for reading and commenting.

@Pickwick12@xanga - It was very well written.  I thought you conveyed your thoughts, and particularly your frustration, very well.  I share that frustration, and that longing for God's truth to be revealed to all.

@Pickwick12@xanga - Thank you for lifting that particular veil from my eyes. Poetry often escapes me due to because of I'm a peasant lol. I understand now, and I share the same burden. I see such an intense love of God in my Muslim friends, yet they seek to know Him through a theological architecture which raises a seemingly impenetrable barrier to a true fellowship with Him, which is His foremost desire with regard to each of us, every man, woman and child sculpted by His life giving hands.

May the Father who calls us to fellowship with His royal family bless you and give you His spirit to indwell you, and may He for the sake of His mercy and His glory, and in the name of His son Yeshua, grant that you bear much glorious fruit for His kingdom. Shalom to you and all your father's house. Peace

@Pickwick12@xanga -@AOK4WAY@xanga - It's hard to see such devotion to God from Muslims when they're missing the important piece in Jesus Christ... Imagine if those Muslims knew Jesus...
Keep the faith. Keep praying for the lost... God is here and he is not silent.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
