Rest and Refreshment: Going on Empty
Tuesday night I got just under four hours of sleep, and last night, I got just under 1. Needless to say, I am dead tired now, and highly in need of sleep. Going through the day was brutal, I was sluggish and until my coffee, altogether quite cranky. I was not at all pleasant to be around. I really needed sleep. In the same way, we really need refreshment from our Father. Going on empty, or close to, spiritually is very dangerous.
People can always tell when you're tired, but people can't always tell when you're spiritually dry or empty. If you're in a position of leadership, this can be especially dangerous as you have to give what you don't have. God, in His grace, will provide, and does provide, but think of how much more influential you could be if you had gone to your Father for some refreshment and rest.
Being a student leader on campus, I have been reminded of this countless of times, and have seen God endlessly provide with his grace, and it makes me sad when I think of how much more influential I might have been for His Kingdom, if I had just taken the time to rest and be refreshed by Him. To truly spend some quality time with him.
Is this something you struggle with? Have you seen God provide in amazing ways when you were in need of refreshment?

It's funny how you expressed exactly how I was feeling last week. I didn't realize it until it was almost too late - but thankfully, I'm back on track and feeling refreshed all over again.
