  • Alabama Pastor Calls Mens Underwear "Pornographic"

By Matthew at Jesus Needs New PR

Here’s the story. My thoughts/questions are in bold.

SOURCE: A local pastor’s complaint about a brand of underwear being sold with “pornographic” pictures on the packaging at the Cullman Walmart reportedly led to a recall of the product.

Okay, so first of all… pornographic for whom? Probably his wife, right? I know a lot of women who like hanging out in the men’s underwear aisle at Walmart! Seriously, those Fruit of the Loom models are hot.

Frank Boren, pastor of New Hope Christian Center Church of God in the Springhill community, said he noticed the huge packages on the questionable underwear package while shopping at the store in May.

“I was in there shopping for some underwear one day, and looked at the men’s pictures on the packaging,” he said.
(He sounds jealous.) “On a few of the packages they were very pornographic in the way they were dressed, in skimpy underwear, (It’s underwear Frank!) so I went to the manager and asked her if she thought it was inappropriate to be displayed.”

After filing a few more complaints in the following weeks, Boren said the questionable and huge packaging eventually disappeared (Disappeared? As in magically? Perhaps Jesus?) from the store’s shelves.

Boren said he wanted to thank Valentine and Cullman County Sheriff Tyler Roden for their assistance in the matter. (He called the sheriff? What?)

When asked about his role in the reported recall, Sheriff
Roden said he listened to Boren’s complaint — though the issue mostly fell to the discretion of Walmart officials.

“He was concerned about the packaging on some of the men’s underwear being too revealing (I wonder if he resists looking down in the shower), in his opinion, to the point that he thought it was pornographic,” he said.

    Pornographic… Really?

Seriously, it sounds like Frank has too much time on his hands (and potentially other issues).

... i can't stand people. everything is a problem, everything is worth calling the fucking sheriff over. IT'S UNDERWEAR. does he want the models that are wearing the underwear to have nonexistent packages?! does he want it to look like a chick with hairy legs are the models? screw people, man.

repression...the sexual education choice of evangelicals the world over...if we close our eyes and pretend something doesn't exist...maybe, it magically won't. ugh. i feel nauseous.

  • thatfatass@xanga

oh yeah. i went out and bought a pack and creamed all afternoon looking at the picture.

i wonder about people who make outlandish accusations like that. that perhaps they have some level of perversion in their own minds, whatever they deem perverted.

pornography, like everything, is in the eyes of the beholder. "a clockwork orange" was triple ex when it came out brand new in theatres. now they play it on television. it's all a matter of the majority's concensus.

the supreme court constantly changes laws as to what is and is not constitutional. abortion, for example, depending on the justices at the time and what is best politically suited at the time. these people are appointd by the president, and will often choose the same ideals and standards as that same president. that's why he chose them: they have the same general consensus as him.

states can make up their own laws, sepreate from the federal goverment. california and weed for example, gay marriage for example. people from california are no different from you an me-they just have agreed, as a majority, on something different than our voters and legistlators.

same goes for school dress codes, same goes for broadcasting stations, same goes for everything. these are matters of opinion, not of fact, but it will always be a fact that these are opinions.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the utter and sheer stupidity of this whole scenario.  Perhaps we should just stop wearing underwear altogether since I really don't see any way to package it without being offensive to overly sensitive people such as Mr. Frank here.  Even if they didn't have anyone modeling the underwear on the package, I could see this getting out of hand if we cater to such requests.  While we're at it, let's outlaw lace and decorations of ANY kind on women's underwear and bras.  And no pictures of actual people wearing underwear ANYWHERE.  And also, we should probably put the thongs and racy lingerie in a back room and ID people to get in, so that we are not ruining the virgin minds of children or offending people by implying that underwear actually covers *gasp* a penis or vagina!!!!!

  • S0lum@xanga

This is ridiculous!! This guy has problems... it's not even pornographic.

  • Just_For_Shits_And_Giggles@xanga

*sigh* So every time some repressed, prudish pastor gets offended, he's going to be accommodated? Fuck that. If I ever run a boutique and someone is offended by something as stupid as this, I'm going to tell them to get the fuck out of my store. I don't need that kind of business.

  • presque_la@xanga

Has he ever walked by a La Senza store? There's window sized posters of women in extremely revealing lingerie. Men's underwear cover up a heck of a lot more than women's. This is also the kind of person that makes Christians look ridiculous. We're not all that oversenstive about everyday things, thankfully.

  • Alyxandri@xanga

I can't believe they actually recalled the product because some guy was too immature to handle a picture of underwear. I really don't understand why some people are so afraid of the human body. And underwear advertisements for men aren't even sexual. They basically just stand there wearing the underwear.

  • JoyElizabeth82@xanga

I always go to men's underwear section for free pornography. I steal the packages instead of the product. Really? Seems like he noticed it a little too much.
Once again, there's a crazy, over-sensitive christian making all the other ones look idiotic. Good job, pastor!

...Another gay pastor just waiting to come out.

  • shineyourlight_x@xanga

I think that was a bit much. But you also have to realize, that people aren't always going to be like you. I'm sorry to be so blunt lol. But, people are different. I do agree, though, it is a bit ridiculous. I mean, I'm planning to go into the ministry for teenagers. And I dont' think I would report that. It's underwear. Lol. Of course the images on the packaging isn't going to be all that appropriate.

  • IamJessica815@xanga

A bit extreme.  I mean, I cant say I enjoy seeing large packages on those underwear packages (pun intended), but they have to show whats inside the plastic.

  • fool_in_the_rain121289@xanga

religious freaks are insane. clinically and dangerously insane.

  • ionekoa@xanga

i think it's great to mock people for their insecurities. EAT IT LOSER! Jesus hates you and so do we! hahaha, i cant wait to show more disrespect to fellow believers, because that's so flippin COOL!!!!

now maybe i can be one of the cool kids too.

What is bad about men's underwear packaging?? It could be offensive to some but how else are they going to advertise the product?
