Alabama Pastor Calls Mens Underwear "Pornographic"
By Matthew at Jesus Needs New PRHere’s the story. My thoughts/questions are in bold.
SOURCE: A local pastor’s complaint about a brand of underwear being sold with “pornographic” pictures on the packaging at the Cullman Walmart reportedly led to a recall of the product.
Okay, so first of all… pornographic for whom? Probably his wife, right? I know a lot of women who like hanging out in the men’s underwear aisle at Walmart! Seriously, those Fruit of the Loom models are hot.

Frank Boren, pastor of New Hope Christian Center Church of God in the Springhill community, said he noticed the huge packages on the questionable underwear package while shopping at the store in May.
“I was in there shopping for some underwear one day, and looked at the men’s pictures on the packaging,” he said. (He sounds jealous.) “On a few of the packages they were very pornographic in the way they were dressed, in skimpy underwear, (It’s underwear Frank!) so I went to the manager and asked her if she thought it was inappropriate to be displayed.”After filing a few more complaints in the following weeks, Boren said the questionable and huge packaging eventually disappeared (Disappeared? As in magically? Perhaps Jesus?) from the store’s shelves.

Boren said he wanted to thank Valentine and Cullman County Sheriff Tyler Roden for their assistance in the matter. (He called the sheriff? What?)
When asked about his role in the reported recall, Sheriff Roden said he listened to Boren’s complaint — though the issue mostly fell to the discretion of Walmart officials.“He was concerned about the packaging on some of the men’s underwear being too revealing (I wonder if he resists looking down in the shower), in his opinion, to the point that he thought it was pornographic,” he said.
Pornographic… Really?
Seriously, it sounds like Frank has too much time on his hands (and potentially other issues).

WOW!!!!
The employees were probably silently cursing him for causing the inconvenience. lol. I mean, sure, especially when I was younger I found the packaging on most men's underwear a little awkward, perhaps, but it's underwear! What else are they supposed to show? Was the underwear sheer?
I think the preacher should go commando. That way he doesn't accidentally have to look at porn in his mirror when he's getting dressed.
While the pastor may be a bit extreme Jesus Needs New PR is worse. I was following him for a bit on twitter, but all he wants to do is start trouble with others. He spent a few days doing nothing but attacking John Piper over something he misunderstood. And here he is being a jerk to mock this pastor. While I agree this probably isn't the battle to fight, Matthew Paul Turner is doing none of us any good.
I do however find it funny that the ads on this page are for underwear as well.
God help him if he ever passes by the women's underwear department...
@MagisterTom@xanga - It does seem odd that Revelife would post pictures knowing they could, uh...cause some female (or maybe even male too) Revelifers to *ahem* stumble
if he finds it pornographic, i'm betting he's gay. and REALLY gay... because i'm a straight woman, and i find nothing sexual about underwear packaging at all. maybe i'm just more mature than he...?
lol!!!! I would like to see more discretion in pictures on the package (just the product, not a model in it). But this argument is ridiculous!
Oh, gosh, you know those tidy-whitey's just set my blood a-fire. I think I may have to build my own rehab center since this good, righteous human being has shown me just what an addiction I have to staring at the Hanes pictures in the middle of Wal-Mart.
In all seriousness, if someone can do with a Hanes underwear package what most people do looking at porn, then he/she has some serious imagination.
lmao
Frank, we need to talk... Frank, come out of the closet. We can handle it, we can help you. Another thing Frank-- You're going to have to stop hanging out in underwear departments checking out other guy's packages. It's creeping people out Frank...CREEPY, you get me Frank? And Frank, I know this is going to be the most difficult for you to deal with... You're going to have to accept your limitations. Some guy's got it and some don't. Take it like a man Frank...
One more thing...Frank, YOU'RE A FLIPPIN MORON!
I'm disappointed in some of revelife's blogs. This is one of the ones that isn't fruitful to Christians at all. I wish we'd have some more theologically and biblically sound blogs. Just sayin.
I've been to that walmart, and will be there Friday, I'll scope it out. hahaha.
We're syndicating Jesus Needs New PR now?
@supcheyenne@xanga - Don't let Frank catch you doing that... Frank is always there checking out other guy's packages. He'll call the sheriff on you!!!
@MagisterTom@xanga - Aww. I've been reading his blog for awhile and I come at him from a different angle.
Which is not to say at all that I find this particular post (or some others) all that useful, but I think his character runs deep. He's discovering grace just like we are, and, like we all do, sometimes says things that rub others the wrong way. But I love his heart and his humour and his honesty.
End of the day, though, he's another brother blogger. And he probably doesn't need any sort of defense from me.
I've seen thongs in the underwear isle in Walmart before, kinda did a double take because normally you think of Walmart as an extension of Christian Fundamentalism Inc.. That's probably what he was complaining about ... but still, it's in the men's section, and generally pictures are helpful to see how the underwear will fit. If he doesn't like it ... ahem, if he likes it and lies to cover up his latent gayness, well, he can go to Kmart.
Oh my goodness.........LOL.I needed a good laugh today!! I just hope he doesn't go down the ladies underwear isle.......He won't be able to handle that.
I also have this to say........Gesh Frank get a grip and relax they are just underwear!!!!
@Such_Were_You@xanga - hahaha! I'll just have to risk it, then!
ya know.. i kindof agree with him. I do not like going into family stores and seeing up close and personal shots of men's crotches. Not every man is hung the same so the underwear is not going to make you look like the photo (sorry guys, including my hubby).
But then the same could be said about Victoria's Secret. Some of those catalogs could be considered pornographic as well.
Repent! Don't wear underwear! That's acknowledging the fact that you have a Johnson!
@Rob_of_the_Sky@xanga - If looking at underwear is pornographic, imagine what looking at your own package in the mirror must be like.
BAHAHAHAHAH - I'm sorry, but there is NOTHING pornographic about some white guy in 'tighty whiteys' - to be honest - seeing that is a total 'boner kill' for me.
@mynameisblueskye@xanga - BAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
Clearly there's nothing wrong with looking at women's underwear models. I mean, they're on television. Can't say the same for men's underwear, so perhaps it is pornographic if it isn't on television.
Why do we even need underwear models? Not that I have a problem with them what so ever, but most people need very little convincing to buy underwear. And, I one time proposed that women also model men's underwear, lol. No one seems to have a problem with women in underwear.
