Have a question you want us to ask? Send it to us!The question as to whether or not Christians should drink has never been conclusively answered. Some say that, so long as it doesn't become a stumbling block, the occasional drink is okay. Others say that, even though drinking alcohol is permissable, it is not beneficial or constructive. There is even more debate as to whether or not the Bible says that drinking is acceptable, because there are many instances of people drinking wine in the Bible, but the Bible also condemns drunkenness.
Do you drink alcohol?

No.
No. Just Vodka and beer.
Drink, just don't get drunk. It's not that hard.
Besides, alcohol, especially wine, is healthy as long as you drink it in moderation- just like most of the things we consume.
@writesque_form@xanga - is too. when you get free drinks what else are you gonna do except drink them...!
When my wife became Christians in 1965, we could not join the church if we used alcoholic beverages and could not serve in church if we smoked. Things have changed. I do not drink due to my prescription drugs, but my wife drinks wine with some meals and beer. I am not offended.
I think the broad problem is the reduction of standards in many churches.

Yes.
I don`t drink because i`m underaged and my parents don`t cuz my dad`s the pastor and some ppl in our church dont believe its ok for the pastor do drink and my mom dosnt cuz of her medication she has to take, but the whole family is actually ok with drinking...you should see our family reunions ^^ but for real...i think the Bible says its ok to drink, as long as we dont get drunk off it...just my thoughts. mainly i steer clear of it because a.) it's illegal and b.) because i want to be a better role model for my peers.
Yeah, jesus is fine with it.
Yep, the harder the better. I love vodka. The funny thing is I have never been drunk in my life. I just like alcohol.
p
Most definitely.
But I think drunkeness is weakness.
Don't ever take what the Bible says literally. Drinking alcohol is fine in moderation.
In moderation, it's fine. Drinking to excess is not. Unfortunately, too many of the people at my church drink to excess.
I was in the middle of writing a post on this issue myself.
I drink about every other day, but I've only been drunk about 5 times in my entire life.
The bible supporting drinking but condemning drunkenness is perfectly reasonable. That's essentially the position I carry, too. But if people can handle being drunk then I'm not one to step on that liberty or judge them.
I rarely drink, mostly because of preference. It is all about personal responsibility, and yes, getting drunk is wrong.
yes i drink.
I'm actually drunk right now...
Matt. 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.
Jesus is our perfect example. Shouldn't we follow Him? Also, every sacrifice of worldly things is rewarded with a continuing increase of His Spirit in our lives.
@lomal@xanga - If we use that verse as our proof text we can't take communion. As even if we took grape juice we would be taking of the fruit of that vine.
Jesus' first miracle was turning water into good wine. Nowhere does the bible say drinking is a sin. Drunkenness is a sin. Paul told Timothy to drink wine for his stomach ailment and Jesus was known to drink wine and was was even called a winebibber.
@musterion99@xanga - :] i like this answer
I drink socially, not til I drunk tho.
Yes. I occassionally take wine with dinner, go out with the girls for a martini, or have a couple shots at a party (read: 10-15 good friends, not a large assortment of strangers at a kegger...which would be dumb and unsafe). Wine is healthy and at most makes me drowsy, martinis and shots are tastey and while I may get a little giggly from them I always stop waaaay before I've had so much that I can't "sober up" in an instant. (I've been drunk in the past and so I know my limits.)
Alcohol is like fire. When used carefully it's safe and enjoyable....but if you don't pay attention it can get out of control and kill you and others.
I personally believe that something like "wine" is different than something like "beer". I think the spirit of the beverage "beer" is to get drunk and be lewd. (This doesn't mean that I believe that someone can't have a beer and be fine) But, wine is and has always been meant for celebration, good company, and food to taste. I think EVERYONE should drink EXTREMELY responsibly. And watch what environment they're drinking IN... If you're having a drink with friends at dinner, that's different than going to a party where questionable people are, and questionable things may happen. Limits may be pushed-,etc
Jesus turned water into wine... I don't see Him having any problem with it.
@lomal@xanga - If you look at the context of the Matthew passage Jesus is talking about himself being in our presence and partaking. He commanded us to continue with communion. Also, look at Romans 14. But, concerning drunkeness: Rom 13:13; Gal. 5:19-21.
Yes.
