The Human Heart: To God, It's More Valuable Than Diamonds
I have a ring. It's shiny, it sparkles, and I adore it. It's every girls dream right? I finally met the man of my life. He is perfect for me. I am so blessed to have him around. He is sweet, strong, smart, funny, and he annoys the crap out of me, which is actually a perk in this picture. And I somehow got him to propose.
And I have a ring. The most gorgeous ring in the history of jewelry making. Today I caught myself looking at it -- I guess I'm one of those girls, the shiny things distract me -- and just being so proud of it.
All of a sudden, something profound hit my heart.
This is just a rock. I am sitting here fawning over this rock while inside I harbor feelings of self-loathing and self-esteem issues. I am guilty of belittling others. I have participated in harmful gossip. I have broken hearts. The human heart and soul...which is God's most wonderful creation, I have pained.
I can take my beautiful ring and hold it up to heaven. I can shout to my God, "Look at this creation of yours! I can't even imagine how much something so beautiful is worth in your eyes!" He will shake his head and think, "You are missing the point."
We pay thousands of dollars for a rock. We show it off to our friends and family. We cherish it for the rest of our lives. And on the other side of the coin, we pay thousands of dollars to dispose of a child. All the while our Father's heart is breaking, and again he says, "You are Missing the Point!"
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11).
The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with
loving-kindness" (Jeremiah 31:3)
1 John 3:1 (NIV) How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
"Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:37-39
"In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." 1 John 4:9-11
Everything in this world that I consider beautiful -- the ocean, the stars, the mountains, the rose, music, sea-glass, old books, butterflies, apples, clouds, birds, frost on my windsheild, rain, chipped fingernail polish, tidal pools, snow, puddles -- everything that makes me stop and appreciate God's creation is nothing compared to the human heart. Even though I think it can be one of the most ugly things in the world, He considers it his most precious creation.
I think my ring from now on is going to mean alot more to me than the fact that I got the guy.
How often do we miss the point? How often do we see ourselves or others as less valuable than they are in God's eyes? How can we become more attune to seeing ourselves and others the way God sees them?

You could probably sell a human heart for a lot more on the black market than a typical diamond, so yea, they are worth a lot more in general.
I would never waste money on diamonds anyways. I refuse support De Beers!
@Pcgecko85@xanga - Wisdom. The abuses in 3rd world countries in the name of harvesting jewelry is pretty horrible.
We humans are like pieces of coal that through the pressures of life can become like diamonds. Unshakable wisdom and indestructible happiness are our ultimate diamond like natures. That is why we are worthy of respect.
