  • One Sacred Home: What Do You Think?

One Sacred Home: What Do You Think? I always thought it would be neat to renovate and live in an old church. A couple decided to do just that.
A Couple decided to purchase an old church in Kyloe, North Cumberland, England  . They invested lots of money to keep the outside as it was . They restored instead of renovated (  It wound up being 3 times less money  )

The couple did there best to recreate the inside like a regular home. What do you think?

    Here is some more pictures:

I think it is really, really pretty. I don't know if I could live there but um...I really want that kitchen! LOL. :D

One question though...is that a graveyard outside? I know there is no reason for them to be creepy but, it would creep me out to look outside the window and say "Oh honey....we need to go weed the graveyard." *shivers* I wonder how well it is insulated too...old buildings like that usually seem to be pretty drafty.

I wonder if people will take issue with it though because it's in an old church building. But, the thing to remember is that it's JUST a building. The church is made up of people, not the walls or windows or whatever, but of the people.

Better than "The Church Brew Works" here in Pittsburgh, where they have the stills right where the alter was.

    @XxFireXboltxX@xanga -  I agree :) It's the people who make the church , not the building . :)
People transform old churches into homes all the time . I would love to live in a old church because of the beautiful architecture and stain glass windows. The one pictured above is beautiful .:)

this is really not that new of an idea.. I know several families who live in renovated churches...
Have you ever slept in a church? (on purpose.. not falling asleep during a sermon ha ha)
I once spent the night in one with a bunch of friends.. us girls slept in the sanctuary. It was one of the best sleeps ever.
So yea! I love this idea for a home.

While this is beautiful, just stunning really, it is sad that the structure is no longer being used as a place where people come to worship (my assumption at least anyway based upon the furnishings).

  • nidan@xanga

That is a really cool idea!

I agree -- it's a pretty house, and its better used this way than left abandoned or torn down.  But, there is something sad about a Church that is nolonger in use as a Church, like there is a hole in the universe...

It looks really awesome! I think it's a great idea to convert places of
worship that are no longer being used as such to living spaces. I
personally would feel weird about it as I am not a Christian, but I
think it would be nice for a Christian family or some kind of Christian
organization to move into a renovated church.

Lovely place. I'd hate to pay their heating bills.

The Bible Chapel in Lawrence, KS, was converted into apartments long ago. I wish I had stopped by to see what they were like. I attended the Chapel for a few months in 1977.

    Beautiful, but expensive!
Think about the cost to keep this place warm!

These houses are most of the time reserved for busy business men who nearly never are home to enjoy the property.

I think this place is beautiful and beautifully restored.  The only thing I would have a hangup with is having intimate relations in that building.  I can't even bring myself to say the three letter word short for that.

  • TheSutraDude@xanga

I would have removed the stained glass windows from the kitchen. I spend enough time in the kitchen trying to get the stains out of pots and pans as it is.

I performed twice in "The Limelight", a huge church converted into a nightclub in the Chelsea area of Manhattan.

I love this. Everything is so beautiful.

  • Faerie_In_Combat_Boots@xanga

There's a bunch of condos in a renovated church up in Pittsburgh that remind me of this house.
They were absolutely beautiful. ($900,000 rent, anyone?)

  • DistantStarlight@xanga

I wish they still built churches to look this way. I probably would find attending more uplifting.

What a beautiful, beautiful structure. If I lived there I'd feel compelled to have people over to study the Bible and such a lot to honor the building! The worship activities of a loving couple who are faithful followers of God probably sanctifies most any home, but in that one, the peaceful holiness seems visible! (Who knows if they are Christian?) I wouldn't mind the graveyard outside. I live right up against one already and it isn't bad. It too is a peaceful, sacred place.

  • buffyfan_5@xanga

It's extremely beautiful. I've always thought it would be neat to live in something that hadn't always been a house.

@BelisaAmbrose@xanga - The marriage bed is undefiled.

God created sex. His idea. Sharing your mild, heart, and body with your closest human friend and loved one is anything but embarrasing, unholy, or wrong. It's a way that God made to make husbands and wives closer and have greater enjoyment in each other.

I also find the idea of a church-building house both beautiful and depressing. Any church that is no longer a church seems to me a failure and bit of spiritual death. It makes my heart hurt. Of course, if it's a Christian family, then where two or more are gathered together in my (Jesus') name, there will I be with them... so it's church all over again. Without the salaried preacher. Preach hard and true, Mr. Husband/Daddy!

I would love to live there!  What a beautiful reminder of God's presence in our family!
