Benny Hinn, the worlds most popular televangelist, finally did an interview concerning all the controversy that surrounds him and his ministry.
When asked if Hinn is taking advantage of the overly religious and suffering people to make a profit he says, "I would not do this for money. If people think I would do this for money after all the misery I had to got through... all those names I've been called."
Had I been doing the interview I would have challenged Hinn to not allow himself to produce an income in 2010. The benefit for him to take the challenge would be that he could say "Look at the God Who Provides!"
What do you think of Hinn and his statements? Would you do what you're doing for free? If not, what would you do, even if you never got paid?
Well, I clearly don't like "Ron", the publicist. And it's good that Hinn, is willing to answer the questions. I just wish they would have provided the stuff ABC had asked for, along with records of followups they do. But, apparently they don't do followups. I don't want to say that God isn't working miraculous healing through him, but, I do question it.
For some reason he gives me the creeps
He's a good actor and he puts on a good show. Hell, I'd do it too for the amount of cash he brings in but acting isn't my talent.
Oops, here it comes.... "Con man!"
ok... first off... lets be sure that all we can ascertain is that Benny Hinn is in fact a Christian. He confesses Christ and preaches Christ... I don't know how much of Christ he preaches... but... nonetheless, I'll give him a massive benefit of the doubt...
what I find striking and hauntingly scary is that his nonchalance in the notion that he subscribes to the prosperity theology... not to mention that his publicist had to intervene on questions that were "too personal"... that to me is weird...
On the other hand, this interview makes me appreciate Mark Driscoll more... Mark was shameless sure, but also never had a publicist nor did any question make him flinch. same with his wife... they were interviewed on Nightline as well...
@MagisterTom@xanga - I don't want to say that God isn't working miraculous healing through him, but, I do question it.
HBO did a special om him where they followed him for a year and then interviewed people that were supposed to have been healed and they couldn't authenticate one healing.
lmao! One look at the people on stage and you can CLEARLY see that they don't have the brains to wipe there own asses.
Anyone who cannot figure out that this is stage hypnosis better get sterilized right away. Scratch that thought, forget I said that, I am a salesman, I need you people. It's all real it's all real!!!
This is the best blog on xanga. No place else am I able to get the kinds of laughter that I can get from revelife.
someone please tell this man that God hates purple or something...
I don't believe in Hinn or anything he is doing. I used to get a lot of flak for saying stuff like that so I built a website and wrote everything down explaining myself... but Geocities was shut down so I don't have that anymore... 'spose I'll have to get to working on a new site. Suffice to say there's a ton of Biblical reasons for Bible believing Christians to reject this man and those like him.
I definitely have a hard time believing this guy. It's like the child pastor that ABC did a thing on a while back. I can't find the link yet, but basically it was this kid that a large group of people thought was someone straight from God... and they would just throw money at him, and everyone was claiming miraculous healing. There was a video of it, and it was slightly mortifying. The way that they were leading the kid to believe he was so high, the way that the adults around him were driven by the cash he was raking in, and the sheer blindness of the people involved in his "ministry". The kid traveled by his own private jet, purchased with the cash he was making by traveling around and "preaching".
I always like to check things out with the source; the Bible. Can you find anything like Benny Hinn's ministry in the Good Book? Or do you find someone who is using Jesus and people's faith in Jesus to make himself famous and rich? We are told to judge those in the Church, so what's the fruit we see coming from Hinn? Any verification of an actual miracle? Any truthful, not twisted, Biblical writ backing up the "name it claim it, blab it grab it" message? If the shoe fits we must not acquit!
See, when we begin using the standard set for us as the standard of measure, and truly seek God, then the truth begins to reveal itself.
Really do we believe that God is behind hucksters? If we don't then we need to say so, and hold to the standard. Do you and I completely live up to the standard? No, none of us fully can, in and of ourselves. But you and I aren't on T. V. claiming to be something we clearly are not. We don't tell people if they want to receive a miracle send money. We don't do these things because we've looked at God's standard, Hinn isn't even trying to meet God's standard, and the proof is in the results of his ministry;...Nothing, except scandal, and no sign of God working miracles...Isn't that right?
I once spoke with a lady who was very depressed because she didn't get 'picked' to meet Hinn when he appeared at a local 'church'. She really believed he could heal her. I asked simply: 'if he could heal, then why doesn't he just go to the hospitals and heal everybody? Why must he see her (you) to heal her (you)?' I stand with those who criticize this person.
set apart from the pack...
I do believe that Jesus had a multitude of people around him. I think Benny Hinn is annointed but I do question some of the guest he has on his show like Miles Monroe. I think Miles Monroe is in error. Some of the other speakers he has had on there have questionable doctrines but I never heard him correct them. IF we are christian,we should be looking to God for healing. I don't think that we have to run to Benny Hinn for it. I have the same Holy Ghost as Benny Hinn. I have been healed from a few things.
well. i don't know about benny hinn, but i do believe that God uses people to heal other people. i dont like how he phrased what he said. he said the holy spirit comes over him then HE (as in benny hinn) has the ability to heal ppl. -_-. i don't like that phrasing at all.
OK, agreed that the Lord will do miracles through those whom He chooses. Also, Hinn's correct when he says that he's not responsible for how people act while on stage...I'm sure he gets fooled by fakes, also. But at the same time:
1) The fact that he owns a private jet: so it costs more for a plane ticket on a commercial airline than it does to own a private jet? Honestly, I believe he loses the opportunity to minister/witness to the public when he isolates himself, even in his travels. As Christians, our life's mission is to spread the Word of God and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the multitudes. I just think his "ministry" would be greater if he flew and traveled by public transportation instead. But then, maybe he doesn't do ministry for free?
2) "Of course if I was fake I'd give back the money..." Actually though, if he was fake, then he wouldn't be doing this at all. Or if he was fake, then he'd be doing it FOR the money (which would explain why he, knowing he was fake, would be doing it in the first place). Because why would somebody who's fake be doing this, knowing they're fake, if it wasn't for the money or fame? So if he's authentic, and yet he's taking all the money and using it for personal gain, then the fruit he bares says he's fake.
3) He claims to be human just like you and me, and that the miracles are God's doing. Yet, he takes the donations from the ministry for himself. So if it's God's doing, then shouldn't God get the money? Therefore, wouldn't it be more appropriate to donate the tax-free donations to others around the globe who need the Lord and help?
4) I've always been skeptical of preachers who take in so much income for themselves. The Apostle Paul did say it's cool for preachers to get paid, since ministry is full-time work, but he also chose not to get paid doing it in order to be different from the fakes during even his time. Hinn may be a good example of those preachers whom Paul was trying to separate himself from being confused with.
Summary: I never really believed in the authenticity of Benny Hinn in the first place, but after watching this video, it shows that his heart really isn't in the ministry, but in himself and the fame this ministry's produced.
My summary of Benny Hinn = false-teacher, false-prophet.
Not a fan of con artists, sorry.
@Happily_Married_Guy@xanga - If you still have some of your writing, you should put together a post and submit it to Revelife, or perhaps a series of posts on the subject. Certainly seems like a subject our readers would discuss!
@modernmelody - I have posted parts of it before, but I stopped because you could hear nothing but the crickets chirping lol. Seriously though, right now it's all on my hard drive and needs a major re-formatting, you know how those old websites were ;) Maybe I'll do it, but it's going to be a bit of work.
@Happily_Married_Guy@xanga - Hey, no pressure. Just extending the opportunity. We're always looking for more content.
@musterion99@xanga - HBO did a special om him where they followed him for a year and then interviewed people that were supposed to have been healed and they couldn't authenticate one healing.
Yeah, I would imagine nothing can be verified. But, I also don't trust a secular source to be unbiased. Or a Christian source for that matter. It would have to be an organization I really believed I could trust for me to accept what they had to say.
I don't follow Benny Hinn, from what I've seen I don't think he has a sound theology, and I seriously question the healings. But, I'm also not going to say that God can't still use him to heal people. Reading the bible there are many cases where God uses even those who have made themselves His enemies for His glory.
I do think that most likely everything about him is a charade, and his riches further make me think that. But, if by some small chance there is some truth to the show I don't want to deny God's work either.
@MagisterTom@xanga - I agree. His theology is pretty out there. I have a friend who saw him in Vegas and was healed of an eye ailment. But I also saw him when he first became popular about 20 years ago. He prayed for a guy on crutches and threw the crutches away. After the service was over, I saw the guy outside using his crutches.
Hinn is the master con man. If you have ever been to one of his meetings you would see first hand the crap he pulls on the floks of people coming looking for a miracle healing. For Hinn it is all about the money. Only the money. Only a lot of money will get you on the stage with Hinn. He is the master con man.
If you go to youtube and type in Justin Peters, you will get a lot of info on the word of faith movement, including Benny Hinn.
