  • Social Injustice is Faceless No More

When Stephen Christian went on a mission trip to Haiti with friends Sarah Freeman and Seth Cain, the Anberlin frontman got more than he bargained for. What the trio experienced in the city of Jacmel, seeing the impact they were having on the people of Haiti as well as the impact the people of Haiti were having on them, became the inspiration for a cause that strives to put faces to the stories of social injustice around the world.

Hence Faceless International was born. Their mission is, according to their website, “to defend the plight of exploited people worldwide who have gone faceless and unknown for far to long. We exist to raise awareness about social issues happening throughout the global community. We provide first hand experience and education through trips around the world and solution-based opportunities through regional resources.”

Since the group's founding, they have gone on several trips to regions where people face exploitation and social injustice on a regular basis, including the coffee fields of Guatemala and the underground culture of human trafficking right here in the United States. They bring along with them members of bands and other social organizations in hopes that they will spread awareness about these issues to the media and society at large.

The below informative video shows clips from a trip to India, where members of the band Showbread and representatives from To Write Love on Her Arms spent time painting and plastering as well as entertaining children:

[Note: Sarah says that there are more slaves presently in the world than at any time in history. This includes the time frame when slavery was legal in the United States.]

Would you consider traveling domestically or internationally to experience first-hand the social injustice faced by other people?
