  • Need a Prayer? There's an App for That, Too

Recently on Revelife, there was a post about a purity ring iPhone application. Well, today I came across a short article on a new iPhone application awaiting approval. The application is called "A Note to God" through which users could post prayers to God and send them to other users. I don’t have anything against the creation of iPhone applications, but what about religious applications? I’ve been told that prayer is just talking to God like you would a friend.  Do Christians really need an iPhone application in order to prayer?

I have a feeling that Christians are going to be getting a wave of “Christian” products marketed to them in digital format. The iPhone may just be the thing that delivers them to us.  I know that all products aren’t bad, but sometimes the line needs to be drawn.

Should we really encourage more religious oriented applications?  How do you feel about religious oriented iPhone applications?

That's interesting.  I already have several versions of the Bible on my iPod Touch.  It can be convenient at times (though I still prefer a paper copy).  I guess this is a way to advertise a product to a specific group (kind of like having special bibles for women, men, teens, children, etc.)  I guess for those who would like to use it, it might be nice, and for those who don't want to use it, they don't have to.

Honestly, who cares...  If you don't want it, don't download it.  Should there be drinking applications?  I think it's like any other application... if you don't' want it, don't download it.  Do they HAVE to have it to pray... no, but think about how you talk to a lot of your own friend... you text/email them... so yeah.

I don't see it being an issue at all. Sounds kind of silly to me - sending your prayers to friends??? - but those who want it will download it and the rest of us won't. Pretty simple.

Here's a novel idea... pick up your iPhone and CALL your Christian brothers and sisters and pray with them. Or better yet, pick up your iPhone, call your Christian brothers and sisters, and plan a time to get together to pray with them in person!

Sometimes you just have to go to the masses instead of waiting for the masses to come to you.

I would not mind seeing more religious apps for the phone...

It also depends on what the app is. I know facebook used to have an app to tell me The Saint of the Day and a Bible verse for the day (this was before they redsigned for the 50th time). And i enjoyed them. I found out more about some saints that i already knew and learned about some ive never heard of. And it was nice to see a different Bible verse and sometimes i would read one that ive heard before but because of the mood i was in when i read on FB it gave me a different meaning.

Although if i read your description of the described app "A Note to God" correctly, I do have a problem with the name and personaly think that it should be renamed. I think "Send a prayer request" fits it better.

But all in all, like the others have said; if you dont want it then dont downlaod it.

    God Bless

This is real interesting. I know you can just pray anytime why do we need an app for it? But people say journaling is a type of prayer so maybe for some reason to make a txt of what they want to say is easier. Or maybe it's more like a prayer request, like pray for my mom that is having surgery tomorrow and other ppl see it and can take a note of it.

But it also reminds me of this other website that someone wrote a revlife blog about where you can PAY and "someone else" will say 20 prayers a day for you...so you don't have to do it....I thought that was kind of extreme...
