  • Is America Uniquely Blessed by God?

On a recent Revelife post entitled Do You Sing Patriotic Songs in Church?LoBornlite@xanga commented:

America is the only nation in history that declared, in writing, that it is self-evident that certain unalienable rights are given to us by the Creator:  the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

And for that, America is unique, and uniquely blessed by God.  America IS exceptional.  America is the greatest nation in human history.

Do you agree? Do you think that America is uniquely blessed because our founding documents acknowledge that our rights and freedoms are granted to us by God?

YES. God, I love that crazy hussy's comments.

We're the only ones who put it in writing but there were other places long before us where such things went without saying. That and we were the ones who put that in writing yet the last ones to free the slaves we had and damn near last to legally grant all of its citizens, minorities.. women.. etc.. all their rights.

So if anything we've gone against ordainment.. though we have learned, like everyone else, and strived to be a more perfect union. The key thing here is that we've had the same learning experience as almost every other nation as old or older than us has.

And so, to no degree are we uniquely blessed by God so much as all living things on this planet are blessed by God with the right to exist and be their part of all the cycles and beauties in the world.. and I further think that it shouldn't take writing to acknowledge something that was a birthright long before anyone ever wrote it.

The fact that we had to write it in order to acknowledge it.. and then the fact that the equality and inalienables dictated in the writing didn't fully manifest into a living reality for everyone living in America until.. almost 200 years after the writing... well for a more judgmental type it would say quite the opposite. Objectively, it says we're subject to the same learning process by the toll of a million deaths, separations and hardships as every other nation has been and is today.. and therefore not special.

It doesn't mean we're not a great nation.. but to say we're given especial anything by God.. when there are billions of other people and hundreds of nations who've been where we've been twice over.. it's an arrogant stretch that I wouldn't grant merit to. That's a part of the thinking that's governed actions that put us at odds with other places in the world. It's something we're slowly emerging from and should continue to.. because this is an age where we have to acknowledge that we're not alone nor the absolute pinnacle of grace on this planet.. else we will become nothing as fast as everyone else.. whenever Earth decides she can't take anymore of us and wipes us all away :D

@scrambledmegzntoast@hardestlevel - George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Paine, James Madison - deists and very critical of religion, Christianity in particular. Read more here if you don't believe it.

  • Naga_Petang@xanga

@designandart - Depends on which side you see it from, lol.

Plus, I'm not sure if there really is any scripture commanding us to fight for the nation of Israel? If there is, my b.

Personally I don't see how the backing of any political entity guarantees spiritual salvation, but hey, maybe that's just me lol.

  • MasterShoe11@xanga

Not so much anymore. If we want to be blessed by God, how about we stop making friends with the dictators of the world? How about we stop trying to force Israel to "make peace"? How about we don't go through with this "new world order"?

    Politics are so frustrating...

@Naga_Petang@xanga - Yeah it's called the bible. Time to read up :)

  • Naga_Petang@xanga

@CoZMuN@xanga - Well considering I'm Muslim, I haven't actually found the need to read the Bible. Not saying that it wont be useful / interesting / enlightening, though. I'll be sure to read it eventually :D

  • designandart

@Naga_Petang@xanga - God said those who bless Israel will be blessed and those who curse Israel will be cursed.

  • LiL_sWeEt_BaBBii@xanga

no. from what my point of view, it is equally blessed by God.

  • scrambledmegzntoast@hardestlevel

@chaospet@xanga - That's not most of them. That's six by my count.

  • CoZMuN@xanga

@Naga_Petang@xanga - Hmm that's interesting, I enlighten myself by reading different religion's "holy books" it helps you make informed decisions. Perhaps one day you will read up and hopefully you will find it interesting since there are a lot of parallels between Christiainity and Islam, Cheers!

We have been yes. We are a country that was founded on God, fearing Him, and following His ways.  It's hard for God to bless those that don't fear and love Him.   We used to be blessed by God, but the more we attack/are against Isreal, we will be less and less so.

  • SirenVixen@xanga

@MasterShoe11@xanga - so true.  It frustrates me to no end; I just have to keep reminding myself, it all will, and has to play out how it says it will.  As they now teach, we are now in the last hours.  We all need to find God quickly and keep that close relationship with Him.

  • chaospet@xanga

@scrambledmegzntoast@hardestlevel - Certainly it's not most of them, just six of the most well-known - including some of the chief architects of the Constitution; in particular James Madison, who is often called the Father of the Constitution.

    "Religious bondage shackles
and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise."
    - James Madison

@scrambledmegzntoast@hardestlevel - "As I said to @HeartOfPandora@xanga - , can you back this up? The whole "deist" thing seems to be popular, but there is little evidence that more than a handful of even the FF fell into this category. Can you actually provide any evidence? "

Thomas Jefferson has been classified as a Unitarian, though he never joined the Unitarian Church. But the beliefs he held and espoused closely link him to Unitarianism.  He himself called himself a Diest as did his political allies and rivals of the time.

There are countless articles, books and such written about this.  If you need specifics let me know and I will be glad to provide you a frew.

George Washington was a Diest as well.  It is in his history.  Thomas Paine a great influence in the American movement was an athiest.

Again, let me know if you need references for this information.

how incredibly american to think we are the greatest nation in human history.
uniquely blessed by god??  that's assuming there is a god, and why should he bless a nation simply for having his name on its founding documents?  one does not earn his blessing simply for believing in him, they must earn his blessing.  and with all the corrupt, power-hungry leaders of this nation, i have a hard time believing this nation is deserving of any god's blessing.

  • nowayout001@xanga

@sierrraa@xanga - Yes, America is a bully, as a Chinese, I am quite angry with it and I dislike the American way (including many things); but then she is exceptionally prosperous (in most ways). God may be one of the reasons.

All you guys say the same thing. You always look at the crimes and completely leave out or even deny any act that America has done for God and for the world. Every nation in history commits crimes, but that is not all that determines a great nation or even the greatest nation. America is blessed by God I believe, but the greatest nations are the ones who have done good for God and the world. God gives certain nations a chance to be great and to do good. Now even the greatest nations may be bad or evil at times cause it is in our nature to sin and do evil. Every nation is evil, but not every nation is truely good. The great nations survive cause God rewards them if the nation truely believes in God and the Sons names. If the good deeds of America outweigh the bad ones and America believes in the Father, Son, and Spirit then America will remain in power. America has done so much for the people, the world, and even served God through the years. We are the greatest nation because we do good acts for others and we believe in God. Thats why we are so great. America couldn't have got here without God. If you guys think America is great without him and that America got to greatness on their own, then it is right to call your faith in to question. Look at the good America has done. Look at the past trials we went through. Their are far more good deeds America did than the evil acts we commited. Any man or women can see that if they look at the truth of what could've been and what was and is.
