  • Is America Uniquely Blessed by God?

On a recent Revelife post entitled Do You Sing Patriotic Songs in Church?LoBornlite@xanga commented:

America is the only nation in history that declared, in writing, that it is self-evident that certain unalienable rights are given to us by the Creator:  the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

And for that, America is unique, and uniquely blessed by God.  America IS exceptional.  America is the greatest nation in human history.

Do you agree? Do you think that America is uniquely blessed because our founding documents acknowledge that our rights and freedoms are granted to us by God?

If we're blessed, its not because of a statement. Actions speak louder than words.

God has thus far bestowed a ridiculous amount of mercy on us. I don't care what the documents say, in fact the documents are disgustingly hypocritical in how they came to be. America's very existence is the result of mankind using religion as an excuse to manipulate, deceive, cheat, steal and basically get what it wants while disregarding all others, and that is not pleasing to God.

God could just be letting us slowly cook in our own crap and we're just too self-absorbed to notice whats happening; but If we are blessed, which I think we may be, its only because of God's incredible mercy and grace. In a sense, America is the greatest nation in human history, but it isn't the Godliest, nor was it ever.

@JJPrint3rd@xanga - that's a great point. I recently watched The Bible Code on T.V. I forget what channel or the name of the Rev. I have it Tivo'd if you want me to get the info for you, where it breaks down some scripture and several theoligists and him believe that certain scripture (I'll have to find that specific scripture for you later i have a bad memory but i can get it) they think is refering to the U.S. and Great Britian as the two horns on the beast and they descibe the beast as the system ( which is government). In other words, what I got is they believe america will turn away from God more and more until are system is corrupt, godless, and way to open minded and that we will somehow be responsible for the the end. It was an awesome show it was in two 30 min parts.

    ...really?

Why does Revelife continue featuring questions like this. Sigh.

  • Naga_Petang@xanga

@CoZMuN@xanga - Lol not so sure I believe in that. Do you have documentation for that?

Personally, I'm not sure how I stand on the Israeli alliance. Considering that on an international scale, it's political suicide.

There is no doubt America has been blessed in spite of all our past crap. It's not the Christian's fault if our blessing is taken ( or has been taken ) away. All Christians want to do is love and please God in His son Jesus Christ. And second is to share the good news of Jesus' sacrafice on the cross. I'm sure by now all the regulars at Revelife have heard about what Jesus did and why. Some of our methods and reasoning may not be perfect but that is because we are still children of God, at least probably most of us. We have all eternity to grow up which we all will do eventually. The first settlers were just like us. We don't have a secret agenda to take over the world. Jesus Christ will do that when He returns. Yes, we believe in the Bible. We try to live the teachings of Jesus. We are also in a war, a war agains evil and war is Hell. Honestly, we are are fearfull that some of you are playing right into the hands of the darkness even though you might not be aware of it. The morals of American society are declining. If God hasn't taken away our blessings, He may very well do so in the future. It seems like most people don't even care. Though man's nature hasn't changed, society has as well as what is taught in school. Christians don't want America to fail in God's sight. So we experienced The Contract with America, for example. I don't know why that offended so many people. Moral values - the standards of right and wrong has importance. We all better get righteous.

@Naga_Petang@xanga - It may be political suicide but it's spiritual salvation.

@bukeshow@xanga - I do not believe America and Great Britian are part of the beast of Revelation. The unholy trinity consists of the beast, the antichrist and the false prophet. I don't see our two governments as unholy or part of this. Maybe God's final blessing for America is to keep us out of all that in the end.

  • designandart

@HeartOfPandora@xanga - The founding fathers left Britian to create The New World Order in America. The Christians just came along because they thought they would have freedom of religion here , they didn't come to be a part of the government. That is a relatively new idea but it looks like they failed in their attempt.

  • Randy7777@xanga

Absolutely, uniquely, positively blessed by God.  -as long as we're Israel's friend.

  • HLPU@xanga

Frank Lambert wrote a 2003 book about the religion of the Declaration's signers.   There is a wide variety of denominations represented.  However, these men were politicans and it is always tough to tell what someone really believed.  Also, simply because one is a Christian does not mean that one would demand such of all others.  Freedom of religion is an important part of the nation's creation (whether the founders really understood what this would mean is debatable).  Money and business were, in my mind, the real driving forces; the religion aspect was opportunistically aided.

  • designandart

One very important truth in the Declaration is that we are all created equal. Again, this is that we all share in a common spiritual humanity: All have sinned.

  • chadwilly@xanga

Oh yeah I'm sure god loves you all for what you have done...

  • kipahni@xanga

I have been thinking about this a lot- especially in light of the whole "Israel is more blessed" then other nations. Here is my conclusion

Those who follow God's commandments will be blessed- their land will be blessed- their family will be blessed. Why is that? Because when we follow the way of God, we are under his blessing. Now when a large group of people all follow God- the results will be a bigger blessing. now what is a "blessing" health? wealth? freedom?
Let's take this on a micro level- when I rest on the sabbath I allow my body to rejuvinate, I allow my mind and spirit to recharge with God so that I can head into the next work week. When I love my neighbor as my self, I promote peace and harmony with mankind. The blessing of both of these two rules alone are numerous; peace, health, communion...ect. But getting those blessings are not easy. So I think yes God wants us to be blessed- happy, but being happy doesn't mean and easy life.

"God is most glorified, when you are most satisfied in Him in your suffering- not prosperity"- John Piper

@chadwilly@xanga - God's love is unconditional, to say nothing about that it's a higher love than we can show. He has loved us all in this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. The actual wording is: God demonstrated His love...

  • heaventtonight@xanga

With all due respect, hell naw.

South Korea's official national anthem also contains references to God, and how He oversees/guards our land. No offense, but I'm appalled by questions like this, lol. Actually no, I mean to offend. How Christian-like would it be to believe that God's love is prejudiced? And what kind of intellectually challenged person would believe in such nonsense? I understand that this post is meant to stir up controversy, but this is just ridiculous.

  • TrumvilleOrbison@xanga

no. in my opinion, that's a really flawed theology, a distortion of what it means to be blessed, and an unfortunate glorification of america. um. america is not god's favorite country. we perpetuate injustice and then turn a blind eye and sing about what a "great" country we are.

  • ROCKtheB0ATx@xanga

why can't we all just get along D:

  • rachelserine@xanga

No.  And I would like to add that most of our documents that give us our freedoms and the ideas behind them were espoused by atheists and deists, and people who cut out of the BIble what they didn't like. :)

  • rachelserine@xanga

@heaventtonight@xanga - I really like the way you said this! :)  Way to go.

  • Lovegrove@xanga

In the civilised world, only America confuses religion with nationalism. You're a primitive bunch. That sort of thing went out in England with in the 17th century with the fall of the puritan republic due to religious excesses and corruption. The problem of America is when England kicked their puritan headbangers out on their ear, half of them went to America and started treating the Indians the way they treated the Irish. America has always been a violently religious hotbed of the self-righteous who confuse Christ and the flag.It is still going on energetically.

  • idanou@xanga

Yes. I believe America is choice above all other lands...for many reasons I will not list. I believe Columbus was led by God to discover America. I believe inspired Godly men crafted our Constitution and Declaration of Independence. I believe, that as long as our country holds to Godly, moral principles/laws and behavior, we will be Divinely protected. Now, those blessings are predicated on our behavior as a nation. There are many congregations who believe this and that is why so-called 'political correctness' cannot determine what is right and wrong. That is why our laws of the land must be based on what IS right and wrong in God's eyes.

We still have the freedom of speech, we still have the freedom of worship, America has the greatest resources on planet earth for helping those in need. We are feeding starving families in Africa, Asia, and elsewhere. We free those who were once captives. We promote democracy, freedom, and peace. We restrain the use of our might by seeking not to conquer peoples, Even with all of our problems America is still better off than any other nation. Yes, America through all of our heartaches and wars is still blessed by God, because we have the freedom to call upon him, I say to support this statement is to look around you and you can see the blessings that God has bestowed upon us everyday.
