From Saturday's
Birmingham News Religion section: Seeing through Christian lenses: Calera brothers lost their jobs in October but their faith burns so bright they had to sell sunglasses.
"God gave him a vision, he said. That vision was Christians wearing sunglasses. Ones that say "I love Jesus" on the sides and "John 3:16" on the
lens, and have a cross above the bridge of the nose."
"He thinks that people will want to share their faith while reducing their exposure to ultraviolet rays."
"When you wear these shades, you're saying you love Jesus."
"Those sunglasses are going to glorify Jesus Christ our Lord and savior"..."We love him, we're proud of him. We want to say, This is who I am. Be proud to glorify Jesus and wear them in faith."
Just in time for Summer. I'm ordering mine this week!

*groan*
Father, give me one Christian who writes your name with his/her life rather than twenty who write it on their sunglasses...
I would put Jesus on my products too, to move more inventory. Jesus lighters anyone?
@Pcgecko85@xanga - Jesus guns :)
"God gave him a vision, he said. That vision was Christians wearing sunglasses. Ones that say "I love Jesus" on the sides and "John 3:16" on the
lens, and have a cross above the bridge of the nose."
Really? Because that sounds so much like movie televangelists who say "God gave me a vision...and I want to spread that to you for a modest contribution" etc.
I'm surprised that God didn't give these guys a vision of boxes and boxes of unsold WWJD bracelets instead.
Do they make Christian antacids? 'Cause I'm thinking a lot of customers would be willing to pick up a pack of those...
I think I'd have to give a good Christian slap across the back of the head to anyone I saw wearing these. Christianity is something to be lived out, we are called to live for Jesus, not to wear His name on our sunglasses or our t-shirts.
I hope he doesn't get a single sale, maybe then he'll reconsider stating God gave him a vision over something like this.
@Jeff91199@xanga - I think God may give him a reality of boxes of unsold sunglasses now instead of a vision of them selling.
@ChrisRusso@xanga - Agreed. I'm embarrassed by these types of things. I wish there was some way to make it clear to everyone how stupid this stuff is.
Wow..
@Pass_the_Aura@xanga - Would they calm the nausea caused by reading about tacky Christian products on Revelife?
"when you wear these shades, you're saying you love Jesus. "
and when you say you love jesus, you get to go to heaven.
therefore...
when you wear these shades, you get to go to heaven.
:P
If I saw someone wearing those, I'd be like, "I'm going to go read my bible cover to cover!"
They're incredibly inspiring!
I'd probably get some, too...
@ChrisRusso@xanga - That was really beautifully written.
@noree_n@xanga - WIN!!! Hahaha! XD
No, but seriously, this really DOES seem pretty fishy, but I don't know if I can judge whether this really was from God or not.
That being said, *I* certainly won't be wearing them!
As long as they are not those BIG framed ones that chicks are wearing these days. Makes them look like Sleestack's from Land of the Lost!
Seriously?! I get way too super sick of seeing "Christian apparel" plastered everywhere. There's a difference between a shirt from a Christian concert, camp, conference, trip... than just plastering it on everything you own.
Shouldn't have to ensure to everyone that you're a Christian by having a cross and bible verse written on every square inch of you.
This is like that T-shirt with the Caveman from Geiko "So easy you can do it too!".. the whole it'll take 5 minutes of your time to be saved. Gag. Why don't we just make people pay a membership fee and they are immediately a part of the club?
If people knew the half of what Christianity was about they wouldn't stoop so low to make Christianity as dumbed down as people do. Jesus is who He is. He's easily accessible, but the road following is not an easy one.
@ChrisRusso@xanga - And so well put and a prayer we all should be praying.
@ChrisRusso@xanga - My exact sentiments!
I am so sick and tired of "Christian Commercialism". It's SICK that people need materialism to "remind them" of their faith-- shouldn't the Spirit do that?
@noree_n@xanga - LOL a = b = c
oooh, logic. :P
@Tom - All it'll take for everyone to see the goofiness of these glasses is to see one person wearing a pair.
@brit_heart_you@datingish - I couldn't've put it better. If Christianity has a high turnover rate, it's probably in part to stuff like this - following Christ looks attractive enough if all you have to do is wear a pair of John 3:16 shades, but once it gets tougher, some people start heading for the door.@LadyLibellule@xanga - That's the idea. (Of course, they wouldn't really work that well, but hey, they'd have a picture of a fish on each wrapper....)
@deepestrecesses - @brit_heart_you@datingish - Never underestimate the tackiness of the American public.
@ChrisRusso@xanga - amen
Really? Why do you need sunglasses to prove your faith?
I dont know how to react to this... It sounds like Jesus for Profit *shakes head*
@Pass_the_Aura@xanga - The Christian book store by my house sells breath mints called "Testamints"...so I would think someone must have Jesus antacids in the making somewhere.
