So, What Do We Do When We Get to Heaven?
Everyone supposedly wants to go up to heaven with God. Heaven is supposed to be the place of eternal peace and happiness, but what do you do there? What do you eat? What do you wear?I know we're supposed to turn into fluffy-winged-harp-carrying-happy-happy-angels, but what do you do? How long are the days? It's supposed to be beautiful, but don't you get tired of the same landscape?
I know I'm supposed to go if I'm a Christian, accepted Jesus Christ into my heart, and believe that he is my lord and savior. No matter what my sins are, I'm forgiven and allowed in. But what happens if Saint Peter looks at me and looks back at the party list and says, "You have to wait a bit in purgatory"?
I always imagined heaven as a start over kind of thing. I become a child and play with Jesus forever, and all the saints tell me stories and what not. But when do you get tired of the same thing everyday? How is it that God has all the archangels that fight and then he has us? I've always wanted to be a warrior of God like Joan of Arc and Saint Michael, but when do I get called?
I know this is just a bunch of questions, but that's the only way I can blog about heaven: constant questions. My granny supposedly went to heaven once when her heart stopped beating during childbirth with my mom. She explained it as wonderful singing, Psalm 23, and beauty beyond your mind. That doesn't help me, Granny. But it made me stop crying at her funeral. I wanna know what it's like, because I don't get it. I know you don't have to get it, but all I can think is 'I can fathom that, but what can i do'?
Do you get what heaven is supposed to be like?

I'm sorry to say that the Christian version of heaven has little to no appeal to me. The whole idea of eternity without marriage is kind of s***y....
@Lynnjynh9315@xanga - sissy? sippy? sarsy? I don't get it. ;)
Whatever "heaven" is like, it's probably not what we think. But, I know that after we are resurrected, it'll be good. Real good. That's enough for me.
Heaven isn't the point.
@TheGreatBout@xanga - *** = u+c+k (I auto-censor)
Maybe heaven will be good for you... ... but I honestly have little faith/hope of landing a wife in this life. Was going to have faith/hope for the next life... ... but then I learned I was tough-outta-luck on that one. Wonderful- isn't it? That's what heaven is: wonderful.
We're all gonna be up there, sitting on our bums, basking in the glory of God even while his shining light causes those little red and green dots you get when you close your eyes after staring at the sun for too long. Then we'll get together for some old throw-some-rotten-tomatoes-at-those-unlucky-non-Christians-down-there-burning-in-hell!!
"Boy, I'm glad I'm not them!!" You'll say. "Yeah, me too!!" I'll reply. Then I'll suggest "Hey, let's go play so video games" and you'll be like "Yeah! ...oh, wait... ... we don't have any of those up here...." "But wait-" Jesus will butt-in, "We have that 'Left Behind: Eternal Forces' game!!!!" Then we'll both look at him with that awkward silence that makes him feel like a hopeless idiot who's never read a game review before....
@Lynnjynh9315@xanga - Hahahaha, that made my day. The bottom part that is. I wish you the best of luck with everything else.
Truly, I've always thought that heaven is a physical/metaphysical place, but more or less a state of being.
However, I've always, though from a non-Christian POV, asked the same questions.
No one truly knows what Heaven is like, but you don't have to worry; no matter what, you'll always be happy =)
like christmas morning. lots of fun, happiness, and cool presents :)
these are things i also wonder.
but i dont think we'll ever know til we get there.
Jesus sort of describes what heaven is like in the Bible ..but other than that, that's all we get to understand.
I've thought the same thing. The though of eternity makes me sick. If I get into Heaven, what will I do with eternity? I'm sure God has something planned, but the idea is so frightening. How can anything last forever?
What does an heir do? He does what his father did. To be a joint-heir with Christ means that our Heavenly Father wants us to grow up to be like Him. He will teach us to do the things He does. What does He do? He sires an eternal progeny. He creates worlds and peoples them with His children. He gives them the opportunity to know and become like Him. We are going to be plenty busy learning to be like Him, and then doing the things He does. The most perfect form of worship is the emulation of our Heavenly Father, which gives glory to Him.
@Lynnjynh9315@xanga - Marriage will exist for those who live with Heavenly Father. Jesus gave Peter the power that what he sealed on earth would also be sealed in Heaven. Paul said that the man is not without the woman or the woman without the man in the Lord. We are not “given in marriage” in the resurrection, but we can be sealed. That is where the modern prophets come in. They tell us that if we are judged worthy of eternal life, but never had the chance to be sealed to an eternal companion, then the Lord will provide one. I was not raised with this knowledge, but I have prayed to know if it is true and God has spoken to my spirit and confirmed it to be so. Have hope.
Wow, I just have to say I loved this post.. it's probably my favorite one I've ever read on here. I don't get what Heaven is supposed to be like either, don't feel bad. What I can't fathom is the eternity part.. it's going to be day after day after day of the same things.. and I'm so used to everything having an "end", that I can't seem to get through to myself that Heaven will never have this "end."
@LadyLibellule@xanga - who says we're in charge of heaven... i stated before... Jesus even trumps St. Peter... so if you want in... you gott know the One throwing the party... because aside from pop culture's ridiculous idea about heaven... and aside from what religious people dictate about Heaven... Heaven is a party where the whole world is invited so long as they know the Person throwing it...
so in all honesty... I simply wanna invite you to come to know Jesus as your Lord, Savior, and Treasure... and come join the party... because if you know Jesus, you're in the party... that is if you want to choose to know Jesus...
and I've already told you how you can know Jesus... but then again... it's your call really... I say come with... and I vote yes for you to come... but you gotta talk to Jesus first...
The image of winged people floating around on clouds all day comes from secular culture.
Heaven is NOW. It is a spiritual place, where there is unity with God and worship of Him. We can experience it right here on Earth.
There will be a new Earth. This is different from Heaven although Heaven exists there. And I have no idea what that will be like; no one does, except God Himself...but I'm sure there will be no lack of things to do.
When you get there you just chill out with the big J man, no biggie or anything.
I often ask myself "Heaven, then what's next?" . Maybe I'll try to pack my stuff and travel around Heaven :D I guess things would be easier since that I'm an angel and have wings :D
There are a lot of opinion and theories about heaven. I think it holds happiness, however I do not know what kind of happiness. But I believe there is some kind of happiness going on, beyond what life has to offer.
@truthletters@xanga - well i wouldn't say heaven is NOW... Heaven has no sin... we still do... of course i agree... Jesus Himself said, "And this is eternal life, that they may know You the One True God and His Son Jesus Christ Whom You have sent..." eternal life is a relationship of intimacy with God... so in a way, eternal life is now if you and I have that relationship with Jesus... but heaven, the moment I'm not hungry anymore because in Heaven, there will be no hunger... THAT'LL be heaven....
Obviously we just hang out and chill and play Super Smash Brothers with Jesus while listening to Weezer.
@lomal@xanga - For my own edification, please tell me how you rectify this passage with Matthew 22:30: "For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven." as well as its mirror version in Mark 12:25.
As such, know that while I hold nothing against you, this is my usual manner of studying scripture. I am a cynic and will put such beliefs "on trial" until I can see the reason of them for myself.
there are so many questions and so many prayers but idk they don't ever seem to be answered in the way i'd like them to be about this subject
I dont think that anyone can "eat" in heaven.
People become free of their physical self when they die. Heaven is just that place where there are no worries, youre just with people who warm your heart, all joy, a place where all the good stuff is. So we dont really have to pee, poo, get sick, eat, drink, etc.
I highly recommend actually opening a Bible for this one. Take the last two chapters of Revelation, for example.
Also, the Bible is pretty particular about what it includes and doesn't include. Why do we ask so many random questions and thereby miss the mark?
Consider the story of Lot fleeing Sodom. There are those who fully make it out, there are those who burn, and then there is Lot's wife. What is her destiny?
Consider the 10 virgins in Matt 25. 5 are wise and 5 are foolish. Are the foolish ones supposed to represent unbelievers and the wise ones believers? Are you sure? They all had burning lamps (v. 7). It's just that some didn't take extra oil with them in their jars along with the lamps. Because they didn't have the extra oil, they didn't make it into the wedding banquet and the bridegroom says he doesn't know them.
Following that parable, there is the parable of the talents. Each had received at least one talent, so they all represent believers. Yet, because the one talented slave hid his and didn't use it, he would be thrown into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Ultimately we know that all believers are eternally saved. So what about this outer darkness of weeping and gnashing?
There are more examples, but I think it's clear that not every believer is "going to heaven" at the second coming of Christ. For the believers, there is this 1000 years of either reigning in the kingdom or weeping and gnashing teeth. Then after that, everyone will come to their eternal destiny -- either the lake of fire (unbelievers) or the new jerusalem in the new heaven and new earth (believers).
So basically, there are two eternal destinies corresponding to believers and unbelievers. But for the 1000 years after the Lord's second return, there is a matter of reward/regret for the believers. This depends on how we live our lives today. Will we faithfully run our course and fight the good fight of the faith as the many brothers of the firstborn Son of God? Or will we live as the nations do and bear no testimony of our being God's children?
And why hasn't the Christ come back yet? Perhaps he is waiting in longsuffering for us to grow and mature and be prepared as His bride.
Heaven is where we enjoy the glory of God, if that gets boring, then NOTHING can satisfy the attention span of a human.
I imagine heaven would be pretty boring. There's no sinning in heaven, and that's about the only thing that can hold my minuscule attention span. It's not like I'd ever get there to begin with, but... Heaven is the highest anyone can achieve. I'm always reaching out for something, so heaven would probably be my hell...
