For a long time now—to this very day—you have not deserted your brothers but have carried out the mission the LORD your God gave you. - Joshua 22:3 [NIV]
That very verse has become the purpose and mission statement for the RevelifeRocks Artist of the Week,
Abandon.
This talented group of guys from San Antonio, Texas started playing music together as an independent band in 2002 at their church. In 2005, they broke out and started playing shows locally and even released their first album,
Ambush. Two years later, Abandon took the next step and signed with Forefront Records after Chris York heard them playing at the club located next to the restaurant he happened to be eating in that night. Let me tell you, God had Chris at the right place (or next to it) at the right time.
One of the first things a lot of people notice when listening to this band is that they sound very similar to The Killers. If you like The Killers or not, you should to give Abandon a listen. One of their strengths is their ability to write lyrics that clearly glorify God and have a message of hope, like contemporary worship music, and combine it with the music you hear from alternative rock bands. During the last year or so, Abandon has released two EPs simply called
Abandon EP and
Abandon II EP and also released three radio singles.
Now that you’ve heard a bit about them, watch Abandon’s music video for their song “Hold On”.

I have yet to hear them. I'm pretty sure they played at a church in my town once. Which was weird because that never happens.
Abandon is awesome. I love "Because of You" as well.
@Audiofreak18@xanga - If there was anyone that was going to beat me as the first comment, it had to be you ;)
@gabrielpeter@xanga - Love love love that song!
No... they don't sound all that much like The Killers--at least not "very" similar. I was liking it though, until the chorus. They have some promise, but need to work on the hooks.
We keep hearing about these various rock and indie type of bands. When are we going to see Derek Webb, mewithoutYou, Waterdeep, Rich Mullins, The Psalters, Odon Soterias, or something?
Thanks for what you are showing us, but can we get some folk/old world music in here to mix it up?
The way God works utterly amazes me. I'm going through so much right now, and I'm actually struggling to not just surrender and give up. This song sounds almost like it was written for me.
@toyouxwithlove@xanga - I'm glad!
@TheGreatBout@xanga - Sure! I'm sorry the variety hasn't been too great lately. I should really mix it up and write about people that maybe I haven't heard of. I just need to research!
@RaquelTWG - I recommend the Psalters. They are a beautiful community and a beautiful band. Plus, you can get all their stuff (music and more) for free. They operate off donations alone.
