QOTD: Where Do You Like to Sit in Church?
Are you one of those parishioners with your favorite pew who gives the stinkeye to those newcomers who unknowingly camp out there? Or do you just chill out in a random spot every week? Maybe you sit in the back with the cool kids.
When I was in high school, I sat in the front right section that the youth group had pretty much claimed for every service. Interestingly, today I still gravitate towards the front right pews in my much smaller church.
Where's your favorite spot?

I love the back.
I never went in.
my Kids usually pick the second pew from the back, they think it's THEIR spot...I particularly don't like it. I get more distracted sitting in the back. I prefer to sit middle to the front, I get more out of the sermon that way....less distractions and better singing!
If I were to go to church, I'd sit in the back: The best spot to check out the chicks and the best spot to observe true religious devotion.
Wherever my fam sits? Haaa.
My spot used to be front middle, but then the woman I sat with moved (I go by myself), so now I am happily nestled in front left just behind my pastor.
I love the back and the side chairs. I now sit in the very back at 2 of the round tables. It is unusual. I think the reason I get away with it is that our attendance is so small and I am old. Also, all my life I have been trotting to the bathroom, and it is worse in my old age. I would quit any church that made me sit up front on in the middle. I also have slight claustrophobia. No one has ever given me any trouble.
In the front --- I get distracted by all the cute babies and kids that keep turning around if I sit somewhere besides the front! I can't focus otherwise! :)
Front row center.
My husband, his brother, and myself all sit in the back, but only because we are all volunteer EMTs and if our pagers go off in the middle of a service we have to as discreetly as possible run out of the building, and go speeding off in our cars.
On the platform--that way it's not a long walk to the pulpit when it comes time for my sermon.
I prefer sides or the absolute front. More leg room. I get a bit claustrophobic, so anywhere in the middle with people squishing me makes me nervous and inattentive to anything but my nervousness.
I sit in the same place EVERY Sunday. A lot of people do in my church. I can go in the sanctuary and tell you where most everyone sits.
I'm a musician, so I usually sit near the front so as not to distract people when I get up during the closing prayer and sneak back to the piano.
I like those at the back
but I've to sit1st row's right corner
becoz I'm the one who control the powerpoint
Lutherans are known for not liking change - and you can tell this because just like Audiofreak, most people at my home church have "Their Spot". I've even had friends who said it feels uncomfortable to sit on the other side of the church! they just CAN'T do it!
i have "my spot" - left side, about 4th or 5th row back from the front.... that way i'm close enough to watch the musicians.
i love watching music being created!
My church has floor seating and "stadium" seating. My kids and I sit in the last floor row.
But about half the time, I'm in the projection booth, which is in the lower part of the stadium seats. (I got into projection because of my annoyance with typos and misspellings.)
Very front, but I used to fall asleep all the time and the priest would eye me, so I moved to the back.
I have a hard time sitting still (I also crack my neck, strech, and just all around shift in my seat) so I sit in very, very back so I don't distract people.
I typically have always sat in the front. I travel around and share at different churches, so it's just easier to sit in the front. But further back than that, my dad started a day called "Sit On the Front Pew Sunday" which was sometime in June, and it really caught on for a while. I don't know why he stopped doing it *haha*. But anyway, on that Sunday, folks were encouraged to sit on the front pew because it always seemed like the first couple pews were largely vacant.
At our church, nobody really sits in the first five rows besides the pastors (and the prayer person, passage reader, etc), the choir, and the worship team.
So when we had a new senior pastor come in, he said "what's the matter with you all? I don't bite!" and forced everybody to move up to sit in the first few rows. But, it's a habit and the late ppl slip into the back, so the front few rows are rarely occupied.
I like to sit towards the side, in the middle. I prefer to not have anybody sit next to me (unless it's my sister or friend) because I've sat next to a few weird ppl at church (though I really shouldn't judge..). During Easter service, I sat next to a lady who kept burping under her breath ... and her breath stunk ...
I used to sit with the teenagers, but eh, not anymore.
Usually I sit in the front so as to not be distracted by those that do distracting things...like clipping their nails, but because the nursery might need me sometimes, I sit closer to the back nowadays.
@a_single_raindrop@xanga - I had to laugh about the lady whose breath stunk. If you have to sit with her again when Christmas rolls around, bring breath mints.
I'm still looking for a good church, so I'll just sit with my friends/whoever brought me that morning (usually one and the same).
I sat in the front of my old church because I was in the praise team. Now that I go to a much larger church, I prefer the aisle seats in the center. I like having a straight on view.
for some reason I like the second pew from the back. I just like that pew from some reason.
