But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. - 2 Corinthians 4:7 (NIV)
Most people who are familiar with Christian music should be familiar with the RevelifeRocks Artist of the Week, Grammy Award winning group
Jars of Clay.
Jars of Clay started in the early 1990’s in Greenville, Illinois. In 1994, the band participated in and won a talent competition being held by the Gospel Music Association. After their victory, and releasing their demo
Frail, they got many offers from record labels and decided to drop school and move to Nashville, marking the start of the music career that has lasted for 15 years.
After signing with Essential Records, Jars of Clay released their debut self-titled album that brought us the hits “Flood” and “Liquid”. The former was so popular in the mainstream market, that Essential’s parent company (Silvertone Records) further promoted it. Soon enough “Flood” became one of the most acclaimed mainstream hits ever released by a Christian band, and the album has since reached multi-platinum status. Throughout the years they’ve been churning out great album after great album like it’s easy, three of them winning Grammy awards for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.
Although Jars of Clay’s sound has changed a bit, the quality of their music has been constant –constantly incredible. Dan Haseltine’s vocals play a great part in this, making Jars of Clay who they are and contributing to their uniqueness. Both good lyrics and good music have never been an issue with this band. You’d think that after fifteen years and ten albums they’d run out of ideas, but they just keep getting better. Their highly anticipated 2009 album,
The Long Fall Back to Earth released two weeks ago and has gotten stellar reviews. It’s definitely something you need to pick up!

good Rock ,good music.
I like the new album. Nothing beats the debut though. When are they going to tour with Derek Webb and Caedmon's Call?! COME ON PEOPLE!!! Make it happen.
Totally loved their music back when Flood was released! I probably should go back to listening to them.
Those guys are so old! I'm happy they are still around.
Their self-titled album was the first CCM CD I'd ever bought--that and Newsboy's "Take Me To Your Leader." I was sixteen.
love Jars of Clay song - Flood
Jars of Clay is great! I didn't know they started out in my state!
I'll have to check out their newest album, I haven't heard anything from it yet!
I love Jars of Clay and they were one of the first christian bands that I ever listened to. One of my favorite albums of their's is the self titled album from 1995.
oh man oh man they are sooo fabulous!!
I love The Valley Song and Needful Hands and Redemption... *sigh*I like most of their 90s work. Not so much in the 2000s. Save the songs "I Need You" and "Show You Love".
I love the songs "Flood", "Like A Child", "Love Song For A Savior" and "Liquid".
@TheGreatBout@xanga - They actually have toured with Caedmon's Call (minus Derek Webb). Caedmon's opened for Jars in 2003 on their tour supporting their then-new Who We Are Instead album.
I've always loved their self-titled debut, but I thought their 2006 album Good Monsters was a masterpiece and possibly the best one they've ever done.Wow, this band is incredible! Been one of my favorites for years! Haven't purchased their new album yet, but I plan to soon!
Jars was one of the first Christian bands I really liked and they are still one of my favorites. I like some of their older stuff better, but they are still a very, very talented band.
My top 25 most played list on iTunes includes a couple of their songs, and one is like my third or fourth most played. They win!I love their new album. It's just so....Jars. Everything's just taken up a notch, especially with the lyrics, like in "Lesson One (Boys)." It's a true 'sequel' to Good Monsters. And yes, while their sound has changed since the self-titled album, it's only been for the better. What they create captures the tone of the lyrics so well that you can't help but say, "This is amazing."
Yeah but in 2003 I didn't listen to this stuff lol.
Thank you for putting Jars of Clay up on this. Anyone who says Christian music sucks just hasn't listened well.
May God bless this band. Hopefully in the ffuture, more and more Christian bands will come.
And how! Jars of Clay was my first exposure to contemporary Christian music in English. Literally changed my life; they opened a whole new field of music for me. I've only heard the old albums - Much Afraid and Flood, but they're excellent and I'm sure when I hear newer stuff it'll be just as grand.
