  • RevelifeRocks Artist of the Week: House of Heroes

This week’s RevelifeRocks Artist of the Week, hailing from Columbus, Ohio, is “sweet indie rock” band House of Heroes.

In 2002, Tim Skipper, Colin Rigsby, and AJ Babcock decided to reform their old punk band (No Tagbacks) and started calling themselves House of Heroes, releasing their debut album What You Want Is Now in 2003. However, two years later they scored a record deal with tobyMac’s label, Gotee Records (more specifically, Gotee’s independent imprint label Mono Vs Stereo). That same year they released a self-titled album, toured with bands you know and love Relient K and MxPx, and added Jared Rigsby to the mix. They re-released their self-titled record as Say No More with two bonus songs in 2006, and finally, their long-awaited album The End Is Not The End released digitally on September 23rd, 2008 and in stores in March.

I could attempt to compare House of Heroes with other musical groups, but chances are I’d fail miserably. Everything they come up with is extremely unique and extremely good. Their latest release, based on World War II, got nearly perfect reviews, being called “one of the most intricate, yet catchiest pieces of music to come along in years” by Jesus Freak Hideout. The lyrical content is deep, spiritual, and mind-stimulating; the themes they touch upon are unprecedented and unforgettable. “Baby’s a Red” is a song about falling in love with a Communist, “Code Name: Raven” is the story of a French spy in WWII, “By Your Side” is about the close relationship of two brothers who are drafted. Tim Skipper’s incredible voice takes the quality of this album to the next level, bringing everything together. If you have money to spend, you must buy this album.

House of Heroes has also toured with Family Force 5, This Providence, The Fold, and will tour with Wavorly and The Wedding soon. Check out the music video for the song “In the Valley of the Dying Sun”, a song based on the story of Jacob, from The End Is Not The End.
