  • RevelifeRocks Artist of the Week: Deas Vail

This week’s RevelifeRocks Artist of the Week in none other than Deas Vail.

Deas [pronounced day-ahs] Vail formed in 2003 in Russellville, Arkansas. The band’s name is a combination of Old French and Latin that translates to “humble servant of God”. Being compared to groups such as Death Cab for Cutie, Mae and Muse, it’s easy to take notice of the lead singer’s high-pitched vocals, slap on an indie label, and move on. But no matter what you slap on them, you can’t deny the talent there.

Laura Blaylock’s skills on the keyboard and Justin Froning’s impressive guitar playing work together flawlessly, complimented by Wes Blaylock’s incredible vocal range. The lyrical content isn’t straightforward a lot the time, but that depth is what takes this band to the next level and really causes the listener to think.

After signing with Brave New World Records [label of producer Mark Lee Townsend] in 2005, Deas Vail released Collapse EP, which sold over 2,500 units just through touring. Their first full-length album All the Houses Look the Same was finished in 2006, of course getting very positive reviews. Last year they released the highly acclaimed White Lights EP, a little teaser for a new LP, hopefully scheduled to release soon.

Here’s a live performance of the “Surface” from All the Houses Look the Same. Check out their Purevolume to hear the studio recorded version of that song and many others.
