RevelifeRocks Artist of the Week: Red Umbrella
Fans of Hawk Nelson, Downhere, and Starfield will agree that Canada is always delivering awesome music. This week’s RevelifeRocks Artist of the Week, indie rock group Red Umbrella, further proves that. This musical outfit from Ontario is anything but ordinary. They’ve been compared to many bands such as Coldplay, The Killers, and Franz Ferdinand, but that doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface. I can guarantee that you have never heard music quite like this before, unless you’ve already experienced the brilliance that is Red Umbrella.
Wishing for Boardwalk in 2006. The first thing you notice when listening to this album is the band’s ability to express spiritual themes in each song with beautiful imagery and poetry, straying away from the stuff that we’ve all heard a thousand times before. The captivating lyrical content is then wonderfully complimented by enchanting melodies and Jeremy Michaelis’ magnificent vocals. Last year Red Umbrella provided us with one of my favorite albums of all time, Living and Surviving. I can honestly say it’s one of the most diverse albums I own, both musically and thematically. Almost every song has its own unique sound and touches upon a different topic. “Boompop” (featuring rapper Playdough), a song that combines dance pop and hip-hop, addresses the issue of vanity and the need for anti-conformity. The acoustic track “Babbling Brook” is about the faith of King David and how we should live, not just survive. This album even includes a great cover of The Byrds’ “Turn! Turn! Turn!”
If you’ve been looking for a new band to love, look no further. Just check out Red Umbrella’s music video for “Storm Warning” from Wishing for Boardwalk.

Eh, it's okay. I typically prefer more melancholy tone in my music... like Jars of Clay. This was is a tad bubbly- but I may grow to like it a little more.
They're okay. I'd be interested in hearing some of their more mellow stuff.
@Lynnjynh9315@xanga - I'm in agreeance with the melancholy thing. Jars of Clay are awesome. <3
Thanks for the intro to this band, but it's not something that I care for. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the guys voice that drives me insane or maybe it's just the style of music. I'm not sure which.
Interesting comments. Thanks for the input, though!
Jars of Clay IS awesome. Loved them since like...1st grade. Haha. They're brilliant.
Never heard 'em. I'm still wondering if the "RevelifeRocks Artist of the Week" has to be an artist who's still around. I am wondering because I would LOVE to see my favorite featured one week, but they had to quit in '07.
i like it =)
for some reason reminds me a bit of Relient K....
@Audiofreak18@xanga - Which band is that?
They're solid....
But I don't get how jars of clay is melancholy.
