  • God's Prescription for Your Discouragement

    "I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!"

    A while ago, Revelife featured a post by a person who had recently become a Christian and now felt guilt and remorse over their past sins. "At the time [they wrote] I thought nothing of it but now I feel dirty and ashamed. I feel I have let God down and that my relationship with Him will never be at its best because of my indiscretion."

    I posted a comment that I thought would be helpful. It was. I got a response from a completely different reader (you know who you are), who had been struggling with condemnation over a similar sin and gave my recommendation a try. I realized that this could have bigger implications than just this one poster.

    So here it is for you. It works. If you need some encouragement today, if you're feeling discouraged, disheartened, or guilty over your sin (you know the sin I'm talking about-- I don't, but you do-- yes, that one), then this is for you. I'm totally serious, but you should see the smile on my face just thinking about what this will do for you.

    Prescription:

    Take your Bible.
    Open it up to Romans 8
    Read it.
    Read it again.
    Read it again.
    Then answer these very simple questions:
    • Are you in Christ Jesus?
    • If so, how much condemnation do you have?
    • Are you controlled by the flesh / sinful nature anymore?
    • Whose child and heir are you?
    • What does the Spirit do for your weakness?
    • Does your sin fall under the category of "all things"?
    • What can separate you from the love of Christ?
    Then repeat.
    Then repeat again.
    Do this until this passage of Scripture is a part of your bone marrow. (You'll know.)

    Possible side effects may include uncontrollable and overwhelming joy.

    i think one of our mutual friends recommended this a few days ago. but it still holds true. thanks.

    here's some encouragement i received today. i pray it's a blessing to you as well. >>>>

    Psalm 46 (ESV)

    God is our refuge and strength,
    a very present help in trouble.
    2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
    though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
    3 though its waters roar and foam,
    though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah
    4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy habitation of the Most High.
    5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
    God will help her when morning dawns.
    6 The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
    he utters his voice, the earth melts.
    7 The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
    8 Come, behold the works of the Lord,
    how he has brought desolations on the earth.
    9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
    he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the chariots with fire.
    10 Be still, and know that I am God.
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth!
    11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah"

    * another antidote for discouragement is to get our minds off ourselves and focus on God and others; this is a balm to our souls. <3

    I can relate. I think many people even Christians have guilt and remorse. It is not always bad feeling that way because it shows you care what the Lord thinks and you want to be a good person and you truly repent and are sorry. But, it is not good to hold onto guilt and shame because that's the reason why Jesus died on the cross for us. So that we would not feel guilty and shameful. So our sins would be removed and blotted out like the bible says and the Lord does not even remember them. I know that is easier said then done but just remember that God does love us he even loves people that sin all the time. God loves everyone and he wants a relationship with all of us no matter what.

    For me it is not a specific sin, but I am remorseful for "letting myself go" in such a way to become half-hearted about living completely and totally in God.

    It's easy to become overrun by the world's troubles, but I know I can do better for myself and take better care of me.

    I plan to use this plan -- simple as it sounds.. it also sounds extremely helpful.

    Thank you so much for sharing.

    Blessings.
