QOTD: How Many Bibles Do You Own?
by mr palm
After yesterday's post Is It Wrong That We Have to Pay for Bibles?, I thought of how many bibles I own. I have three that I've gotten from different summer camps. I have a couple that were handed to me by well-dressed Gideons standing in busy pathways at my college. And I just know that there's one that a loved one gave me, too. So that's six bibles. How often do I read them? Well...
How many bibles do you own?

Just one. It sits on our home altar.
I think we got two in the house.
I actually own about 12. Different translations and versions, a lot of which were given to me.
We have 4 in our house...
I have about 5?
I'm only aware on how I got two of them, the rest I don't even remember...
I tried to reckon them up in my head but I lost count. Upwards of a dozen, I'm sure.
Also, do the nine translations I have in my computer Bible software count as nine Bibles or just one?
Suggestion: Those who feel uncomfortable about having too many Bibles may feel better if they start donating to Wycliffe Bible Translators, which helps get Bibles to people who actually need them.
Around a dozen (about 8 different English translations, a couple Portuguese ones, a couple diglots, a couple Greek NT's and a Hebrew OT)...I most consistently use the NASB and my NET-NA27 Greek/English NT diglot, but I frequently reference the others when preparing sermons, Bible studies, etc.
im shur maybe 30 @this point including tyndales great tranzlayshun in orijnal & modern spelling az well az greek & hebrew texts
@MysteriumFidei@xanga - you have an alter at home?! o_o
i personally have 3 but because my mum loves collecting different versions and translations in both chinese and english, we have about 12 or 13 in total between the 4 of us.
since my husband has been in the ministry, we have a ton of Bibles. they actually do all get used, as we have one of possibly every translation out there today...for comparison study. i've found that comparing the different translations gives me a deeper understanding of what the passage is saying...
I have three books of mormon one to hand out, a spanish version and my personal one. I have about 10 bibles. Some are the childrens ones with pictures that i have kept for my future children.
@Viola_F@xanga - Home altars are very common in Catholic homes. It's not a proper altar, i.e. a priest would not be able to use it to celebrate the Mass; it's more of just a place to pray. It's a small locale in one's own home where one can focus his attention on spiritual things more easily.
We put our icons, our Bible, and our devotional books on it. This is what a typical home altar would look like:

Ours is not nearly that ornate.
between my husband and i, i think we have about 6. but that includes 2 childrens bibles from when i was a child.
I have 4 (all of different translations), and my husband has 3, I think. That's a lot.
One and a half.
I have an NIV which I received upon matriculating at a Baptist Middle School way back in the 6th grade. And, I received one of those little ones that is just the New Testament and Psalms&Proverbs from one of those "well dressed Gideons".
Oh, and I used to have a Spanish/English Bible that I had to purchase for my 8th grade Spanish class at the Baptist school, but I have since misplaced that one.
Though, I think we may also have a children's bible somewhere as well...*shrugs*
picture bible, goodnews that my kongkong (grandpa) gave me, psalty that my aunt gave me, gideons that i got from school, teenage bible that my parents gave me, quest study bible for baptism, spanish-english new testament + psalms and proverbs
so 7 that i woudln't give away =) (unlessthere really was a need =P)
and then i have a few to give away, and since my family is in ministry we always have bibles, commentaries or books to give away to either our supporters or to people who need them =) hahah i have a few here at my uni that I give away to people =)
haha
Well... I own about 7. One is always in my car (which I keep in case I need it or need to give it to someone).
We've got two in our bedroom. One on the desk thing that we got for our wedding (its a show bible... not sure that counts lol). Then we both of the bibles that we use most often (nasb and esv) and then an old NLT that I got from my preacher back home which stays on the shelf.
We mostly just use the two and the others are for when people come visit and we do bible studies and such.
It's hovering somewhere near a dozen, methinks.
I have two personally that I use...one is my old one and then my newest one....but I've had more when I was younger that I still have. The rest of my family owns a lot of bibles too...we have many in our house!
4
Four. An ESV, a NASB, my old NKJV, and a tiny little KJV I take on camping trips.
I take that back, I have five--I do have an NIV that I almost never use, but was a graduation present and has my name on it.
I have a bunch. I have 3 different Revised Standard Version-Catholic Edition Bibles that I use the most, one being a 1 year Bible that I use daily, the other being a pocket size one in my back pack that I keep to use in class and school, along with a small size Catechism of the Catholic Church. I also have a New Jerusalem Bible, 2 New American Bibles, 1 Thompson Chain NIV that I use for study (this is the Bible my dad, my mom, and my grandfather preach out of, although Papaw used the Kings James Version) I also have a New Living Translation-Catholic Edition 1 Year Bible... but I don't like the translation, so I don't use it much. So that takes me to 8.
I own one bible (not the King James edition) and had 2 versions of the testament.
personally i own 2 but theres more than like 20 in our house...
