  • You Can Bless God By Enjoying Him

    poppy by miss poppy

Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 94:19 When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.

Does God delight you? Is your heart filled with joy by Him? I think that when we read these types of verses we have a tendency to say, "Wow, I'm a bad Christian. I need to work harder to enjoy God." Huh?

The basic truth is that God is enjoyable. If we're not enjoying Him, we're either not spending time with Him, or we're not experiencing Him as He really is when we spend time with Him.

I wish there was a five-step method I could list that we could all follow that would get us to a place where we would experience the fullness of God's presence, but nothing like that exists. However, I know one thing for certain: If a person wants to enjoy God, God will bring him to a place where that can happen. The path seems to be a bit different for each person.

Tonight, my memory is returning to the fact that God wants to be enjoyed. We bless Him by enjoying Him. We can know for sure that if we're not enjoying Him, His heart's desire is that we would know Him more and experience the overwhelming love that can't help but delight us.

Have you stopped to enjoy Him lately? There's nothing more wonderful for you or for Him.

I'm not exactly religious but I had a really close brush to death ealier today, almost got hit by a car, but I do believe in God and I feel the reason why I'm still alive & uninjured is that He and my grandma who recently passed away were watching over me.

@JoeytheGenie@xanga - That must have been tough. Glad to hear you're doing ok.

I was just moments ago enjoying God as I tucked in my 3-year old son and he said, unprovoked in any way, "God is here. God is everywhere. There is only one God. There is only one Jesus. Jesus will never leave."

Talk about being blessed and enjoying the fullness of God's power and presence in my life.  The Lord just knocks my socks off every day.

Actually there does exist a method.  This is what religion is.  Religious doctrine and practice is the method by which a person pursues happiness.  Therefore it is crucial to practice the proper method.

One of the great troubles caused by modernity is the separation of faith from reason.  When faith no longer informs reason or when faith is no longer grounded by reason the human being can create any variety of imaginary realities and truths.

This leads to incoherence (madness) and the realization that there is no method to  madness.

But God is reality.  He is order and coherence.  We are created with the specific purpose to know, love and serve him.  He gave us the method we need to accomplish our purpose.

It works every single time it's tried.

Great post, it was encouraging I'm doing a bible study now with the book, "How to fight for Joy" by John Piper. It's really good!

@klhg_godsdaughter@xanga - I'm sorry, but that was not "unprovoked".  He probably had no choice but to blurt out something like that, as I'm sure it's been indoctrinated into him since birth.

@LadyLibellule@xanga - There's nothing wrong with indoctrinating the Truth.

Also living Proverbs 3:5-6 helps me

to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's urgings

(which include when and how to communicate with God the Father).

I haven't really stopped to enjoy Him since Sabbath. But today is a new day!

That is wonderful! What a refreshing post. Thank you, Miss Poppy, for reminding me to enjoy God today. :) I really like your posts. They get to the heart of a relationship with God. They remind me that everything else is peripheral. Even most of the things that people like to argue about on Revelife aren't very important compared to delighting in God. Ideally, all else follows that. God really uses your writing in particular on Revelife to bless me in my spiritual walk.  THANKS.

@DistantStarlight@xanga - Miss Poppy here. You're welcome :) I know that before God showed me how delightful He is, I had a very hard time with my relationship with Him. I felt guilty because I didn't read the Bible and pray more. However, as I experience God more and more, I realize that the heart of my Christianity is my love relationship with a delightful God. Thank you for your kind words.

    • About Me: I am a senior in college. I love to knit, watch K-dramas, and bake. The point of my life is to love God, and I write about the ups and downs of that journey. Philippians 3:8-11: 8What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. 10I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.
