QOTD: Your Afterlife
by revelife crew
A seemingly basic question, but one that will probably garner different answers, even among Christians.
After you die, where do you think that you will go? What makes you sure?

No one can answer this question with 100% certainty.
If one cannot answer this question with certainty, is a person a christian by the biblical definition?
I do not believe in heaven or hell, or god in general. I believe, however, that every person has a spirit, a personal god inside them. When we die, I believe that this spirit will leave a person's body, and go on a journey of exploration, learning everything about our world. Since knowledge is infinite, this journey is one that would take forever. Sometimes these spirits might be felt (such as when people remark upon the sitings of ghosts or angels or whatever else). That is what I believe.
A Christian can know for certain where He/She is going. That is why we have faith. This is why Christ came and died on this earth, so that we who believe in Him, may eternally be in the presence of God, not only on the earth, but in the life that is to come.
Christians need to grasp this. If you can't understand this, then you will struggle with all aspects of being a Christian.
@SerenaDante@xanga - Where do your beliefs come from?
@hilonesomesound - Myself.
@SerenaDante@xanga - Are the ideas you used to build your belief system original?
Where will I go when I die?
I'm rather sure that my body will go to a funeral home, to my church, and then probably a cemetery in Saint Joseph, MO.
However, answering the question as intended...
Because I have trusted Christ as my savior, I believe that the words of Christ would be appropriate, that on that day, I would be with Him in paradise. I believe the words of Paul, "absent from the body, present with the Lord."
Thus, to answer the question, "heaven. Until my body is resurrected, and the new heaven and new earth are brought to pass (Revelation 21); then back to earth."
@hilonesomesound - I am atheist. I was asked once what I think happens after death, and I couldn't give a reasonable answer besides, "we sit in our graves and rot." So I thought, and came up with something that might be slightly more interesting. As far as I'm aware, yes, my ideas are original.
@SerenaDante@xanga - why do you classify yourself as athiest?
Straight to Heaven or down the hole, do you know where you gonna go...
Sorry, couldn't resist that, I'm a MAJOR Audio Adrenaline junkie. And very proud of it
And to answer the question, i will be going to Heaven, to join my Savior. I know because He has given the gift of Salvation and i have accepted it.
I believe that I am going to heaven. Given I keep following the words of God and that I don't stray from His truth.
I am trusting in Jesus Christ (who He is and what He has done) alone for my salvation (from sin and to eternal life with God). Just a few of the better-known verses that teach this:
John 3:16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
Ephesians 2:8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast.
As far as a glimpse of what life in heaven and God's eternal kingdom in the new heaven and new earth is going to be like...check out Revelation 20-21.
@SerenaDante@xanga - How did you develop that belief and what it is based upon?
(I just read where you say you developed it yourself.)
Why do you believe that rather than Christianity?
I think I will sleep as Samuel did before Saul had him summoned up. After the sleep, at the end of this era we will all be judged and I will join those who have given themselves completely to the Lover of Our Souls in the new Heaven. Once there I will see Him face to face and sit ready with complete joy to do as He pleases.
@hilonesomesound - I do not believe in any god. I suppose that my earlier statement about how we all have gods inside ourselves, our spirits, would make me seem in some way theist... However, the definition of a god in most religions includes something like "all-powerful" and "all-knowledgeable" and so on... But my view of a personal spirit is nothing like that.
@musterion99@xanga - Why do you believe Christianity rather than what I have said? The idea of a Christian god and heaven and hell was also something made up by one man (and transported around by him and his disciples) 2000 years ago.
I'll probably reincarnate. As long as there's still an earth to reincarnate on and people haven't destroyed it while trying to hasten Armageddon.
I'm not 100% certain that that's where I'll go. But from my perspective, it's what seems likely.
@SerenaDante@xanga - Why do you believe Christianity rather than what I have said?
Because you didn't die for my sins.

hell was also something made up by one man (and transported around by

If you made up yours and believe it's true, then why don't you believe what Jesus said is true?
@musterion99@xanga - Not yet, I haven't. =P
Because I didn't make up what Jesus said. He did. It's like... I have an invisible friend Bob, so of course I believe what Bob says. But you might have an invisible friend Sally, who you say exists but I can't see... So why would I believe anything that Sally supposedly says?
@SerenaDante@xanga - Why do you believe Christianity is "made up"?
@LadyLibellule@xanga - What has created your perspective that you will "reincarnate"?
@hilonesomesound - First off, I'd like to point out that the question asked what everyone believes will happen. It's my belief, and if you don't like it, that's your own problem.
Second off, duh Christianity was made up. Someone had to think of the ideas and so on in it. Or multiple people - Jesus and his disciples. Judaism and Islam and Buddhism and Hinduism and Wiccan and Scientology were also all made up by someone who decided that that's what they thought was a good explanation for how the world works. Christianity didn't just pop up out of nowhere. Someone had to think of it.
@hilonesomesound - Now, my question is this - what is your certain answer?
@SerenaDante@xanga - Does it bother you when you are asked why you believe what you believe?
Have you done any reading or research on the beginnings of the religions you mention? Is it possible that there is something that sets Christianity apart from the rest?
