by mr palm (Editors note: The following is a humorous take on what many college football fans see as the media's love affair with and bias towards Tim Tebow.)It was great to see the encouraging comments about University of Florida QB
Tim Tebow promoting John 3:16 during the BCS Championship game. Unfortunately for Florida fans, Tebow, much loved by the sports media, has decided to forego his senior season.
The Sporting Press was on top of the story:
Tebow Skips Senior Season, Ascends Directly Into HeavenMIAMI (SP) -- Shortly after leading the Florida Gators to a national championship with a 24-14 win over Oklahoma, junior quarterback Tim Tebow announced he would skip his senior season and ascend
directly into heaven.
Tebow entered the press room to wild applause. A reporter for a 24-hour cable sports network burst into tears when the 2007 Heisman winner walked into the room. Another threw a pair of boxer shorts on the
podium. Tebow smiled at the gesture and several sports reporters
fainted.
"Sorry I'm late," Tebow began. "There was a six-year-old boy with cancer in row 54 and I had to make my way through the crowd to heal
him."
"I want to start by saying that playing quarterback for the University of Florida, winning two national championships, has been a great honor. There has been some speculation about my future and I want to clear that up right now," he continued.
"Don't go, Tim!" a reporter shouted from the back of the room.
"After much consideration, I have decided to skip my senior season at the University of Florida and ascend directly into Heaven," Tebow announced. Upon making the announcement, Tebow was bathed in a blinding white light and vanished.
In response to the news, ESPN announced they will have a month-long tribute to Tebow. ESPN2 will now be known as ESPN-TEBOW and will feature Tebow highlights (including home videos of Tebow's childhood), re-airings of past interviews, Tebow-centric analysis by ESPN air personalities, a Tebow quiz show and a reality show to find the "most Tebow-like" person in America.
"He wasn't just the greatest player in college football history," said a college football writer at the press conference, tears streaming down his face. "He might have been the greatest person to ever walk on earth."

This is really tasteless and stupid.
Why is this on the Revelife featured entry??
@Kristenmomof3@xanga - Yeah what is the deal with this?
@NightCometh@xanga - I messaged them with my complaint.
Err...what?
I laughed at this, but on some level I don't think I should have.
Still laughed.
@Kristenmomof3@xanga - Whom do I message?
@NightCometh@xanga - up in the top toolbar where the subscribe is. If you put your mouse on there a list pops down and one is message
Guys, it's satire. It's making fun of how the media has been treating Tebow like some deity that graces the earth by walking and passing and gator chomping.
Someone on FOX or ESPN compared him to Gandhi. Gandhi! He throws a football and does missionary work with his parents! He doesn't liberate countries through his will and peaceful protests!
@Danigi@xanga - I don't follow football, and I have no idea who Tebow is. It's all well and good to write this type of post, but I don't think it belongs on the Revelife front page. This is a blog about Christianity, not football or satire. I'm not trying to be a stick in the mud, honestly.
@NightCometh@xanga - Ah well I understand then. Tim Tebow is basically a nationally acclaimed quarterback who won quite a few awards for himself and his team. And he does missionary work and other things of that nature. And sports commentators love him and have compared him to Gandhi.
I think the reason why it was put on here was because a few posts on here have been written entirely about him or referencing him. I personally thought it was pretty funny, but I can see why you don't think it belongs.
ROFL!!!
Has anyone ever read The Onion or watched The Colbert Report? They are satire, as is this. While I think satire and sarcasm are generally useless as most people are not good enough writers to pull it off, including this writer, I recognized it for what it was. And anyone who reads Revelife regularly would know who Tim Tebow is as there have been a couple things about him on the front page. I have a serious problem with the people here who have apparently determined that they decide what does and doesn't belong on the front page of Revelife. Hopefully your comments are duly noted but this post stays where it is. Just because it's not funny and fails miserably as satire, doesn't mean you get to decide it doesn't belong.
I think it is hilarious and a well-written satire. Initially I thought it was a mean-spirited commentary on Tebow's faith in the beginning, but caught the joke in the middle.
It's fantastic that it's featured. Christians have a sense of humour too right? Besides, I think it makes fun of how current media and society idolises athletes to the point of deity, and isn't that idolatry? A major abomination in our faith? The post simply does it in a roundabout, humorous way. The best way.
Lance Armstrong is making a comeback in the Tour Down Under in South Australia. A reporter likened his comeback to the return of Jesus. Isn't that indicative of the superhuman status that these celebrities have and how ridiculous the whole phenomenon is? I reckon that is an issue that Christians should tackle, and the post has done it wonderfully.
Not everyone gets satire. That's cool. But guys, chill your jets. The post is not anti-God or anti-faith. Oh, and it is not ABOUT satire. Satire was simply used as a method to convey meaning.
Waste of time. Satire is usually humorous. This is just dumb.
Tebow is someone we should admire for sticking by his beliefs and using what he is good at to find opportunities to share his faith.
This article is basically making fun of a fellow brother in Christ and there's nothing funny about that. We expect this behavior from Colbert and The Onion, but it's just rude to find on a Christian blog.
hmmmm...obviously, the only question we should be asking ourselves is WWTD?
What Would Tebow Do?
I think Tebow would laugh at this. I enjoy this sort of satire much like I enjoyed the movie "Saved" back in 2004. I think it's important to see how the world views Christianity.
The Onion.com comes to ReveLife.
I don't think it's so much of a love affair and bias towards Tebow by the media as it is his good character sticking out like a sore thumb in a sport populated with thugs. After all, the media at large tend to marginalize and criticize Christianity, rather than promote it.
Wow...shitty satire. It would have worked better last week.
@gabrielpeter@xanga - No, this is NOWHERE near the Onion's quality.
@Issie - Ugh. This guy needs to work on it. It wasn't even entertaining. But then again, I get paid to write satire.
For those complaining about this being on revelife - get over it. It's an attempt at humor, whether you find it funny or not. If you don't want to read it, then don't. There are plenty of topics on revelife that don't interest me, and I just don't click on the link. It's not that difficult.
Lol, I thought maybe Tebow changed his mind. He vanished into the light? LOL again. What the hell is up with the negative feedback by people who don't even know who he is??? THEN DON'T CLICK ON THE F-ING LINK.
