  • ROMOT: Recommendations for Books and Movies?

    revelifecrew by revelife crew

ROMOT: Recommendations for Books and Movies? Hey everyone! It's Friday again! It's time for our weekly ROMOT (Revelife Outreach Meet Others Thing), where we encourage everyone to meet each other through comments and friending.

Here's how it works - we ask a question, and after you comment, drop by the site of the commenter above you and say hi, friend or sub to them! They'll appreciate that you took the time to drop them a line.

Today's question is: Is there a book you read lately or a movie you watched that you can recommend?

I just watched August Rush, and as a music fan, I thought it was beautiful.

I'm currently reading Terms of Endearment. I'm Just not sure about it yet. I am also working on Velvet Elvis.

I would recommend the Twilight novels to you all.
When I first read them I was just excited about the vampires and the beautiful boys but when I read them over I realised there's lots more too the books. They have important messages we can all learn from and I urge you to read them.
The film doesn't portray this as well because a lot of the novels has been cut out and you don't get to understand the characters properly but yeh, they're really good, as i'm sure you've heard :)

@rockabillyXfilly@xanga - I saw August Rush when it first came out and loved it! :) I got the soundtrack for Christmas, and it's pretty amazing too - I would definitely recommend both!

Right now I am reading Jane Eyre by Bronte, and it's really good so far.

High Fidelity is a good read, 'specially if you love music and have been through at least one rough relationship. The movie adaptation is good, too, but that won't be my movie recommendation. Go out and rent Ghost Town, with Ricky Gervais, Tea Leoni, and Greg Kinnear. It just came out on dvd a couple weeks ago. I went to it in the theatre and it really surprised me at how well it was done. Perfect mixture of humor and drama. I even found myself choking back some tears!

Right now I'm reading Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. It's a really interesting book. All of his books are amazing. Blink! by him is the best so far I would say. So I would definitely recommend that one!

Also, probably like every girl out there - I'm going to have to suggest the Twilight saga!

book _ I'd have to say that if you tend to be negeative or focus more on whats going wrong ten right  in your life in your family in your ministry then you shold read :

Hullabaloo: Discovering Glory in Everyday Life

by Dr. Timothy Paul Jones Gain a greater awareness of the presence and glory of God amid the hullabaloo of daily life.

I highly recommend the film Bella if you haven't seen it yet.

The book I most recently read was The End of Reason by Ravi Zacharias.  If you know much about New Atheism, or have heard many friends talking about Sam Harris or his books, The End of Reason is a perfect counterpoint.  It's an easy read.  You could knock it off in a day or a weekend.

I am currently reading "Wild at Heart" by John Eldredge. I read the other book Captivating that he co-authored with his wife. Wild at heart is about "discovering the secret of a man's soul" and Captivating is the same but a woman's soul. They are both great books.

Twilight is amazing. I love it more than the film and it definitely has a lot more to it than the film portrays. I have barely been able to put it down.

Anna Karenina is also really good. The beginning is a little slow, but the story develops beautifully.

As far as films...Indochine, a French film, is so amazing.

    Now you're it!!

I'm currently reading a mycology textbook, but I wouldn't recommend that to other people LOL

Instead, I recommend "A Room With A View" (E.M. Forster) or "Carpe Jugulum" (Terry Pratchett) for the vampire obsessed

I haven't watched any movies lately, sorry

One book that I would recommend for every Christian is "Spiritual Warfare for Every Christian" by Dean Sherman.  Very practical, down-to-earth approach to spiritual warfare.

I just watched Occupation 101.  An incredibly informative film on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict with a pro-Palestinian point of view.  With the current Crisis in Gaza, it's a must watch.

I also finished reading Watchmen not long ago.  I heard about it from watching The Dark Knight and it's awesome.  It has a great storyline and incredibly complex characters.  Can't wait for the movie.

A great book for Christians and non-Christians is God, Godel, and Grace by Clifford Goldstein.  Its very intriguing if you like apologetics type of books.

  • littleappleblossom89@xanga

I recently watched Breakfast At Tiffany's. It's classic Audrey Hepburn that I highly recommend.

  • slamjoe@xanga

"zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance"

some references from the 70s might be dated. but it's a classic.

i think everyone could enjoy the first one-third of the book.

it takes a sharp slant around the middle but this is where you activate the mind the Lord gave you and discern truth from falsehood.

read the book with john 14:6 in mind and as your base and the book is a lovely and challenging read.

Well recently I have read Brisinger ( The 3rd book in the Eragon series) The Complete Maus ( a graphic novel about the holocaust) and The Resturant at the end of the Universe( A part of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series)  .
Movies I recommend hmmm...  American Teen is a pretty good documentry about teenagers . I thought it was creative and a very accurate portrayal of teens. It reminds me a bit of the breakfeast club but more edgy. Overall I thought it was a fun film.
Surprisingly I really liked the movie Stardust . It's based on a novel done by Neil Gaiman ( the best author in the world in my opinon ..hehe) I am not good at explaining what movies are about. So all I got to say about this movie  is that it is Fantasy Oriented and sort of chick flick. It's a fun movie

I recommend Mercy by Jodi Picoult. It isn't necessarily a great book, but the message is deep and passionate.
