I'm Thankful for My Brain Damage

Hey, I want to tell you all about my amazing story and why I KNOW God is infinitely wiser than all humanity... My high school career was characterized by doing EVERYTHING (and I mean everything) on my own strength, and I left no time for God. I was only a nominal Christian but did not live the life at all.In my senior year of high school I found out I had received a scholarship at GCSU and decided I'd go there (Dec. '04). Two months later I was involved in a devastating accident, from which I sustained a severe traumatic brain injury (Feb. 5, '05).I was humbled as much as a person can be humbled. I became an infant again (a few months after I had become a real adult) and had to relearn how to walk, talk, eat, shower--I even had to wear diapers.Only God can change hearts, and He softened the heart of my high school principal who allowed me to graduate on time with my class (May '05). Also I was allowed to postpone my enrollment at GCSU, and I'm allowed to keep and use the scholarship even though I don't meet all of the requirements.I came to GCSU in Fall '06 and found Jesus. I've had SO MANY emotional (and social, and academic, and spiritual, etc.) upheavals, and really the only reason why I'm still in school is that I know God is with me and I can count on Him.The really amazing thing is that God turned my psychotic school involvement and thus falling away into good because it won me the scholarship at GCSU where I found Jesus and am being discipled. So, I'm in college--in the honors program--with brain damage (and thankful for it), and I can confidently say it's all thanks to Jesus.Has a traumatic or difficult situation in your life ever turned out to be a blessing?

It's wonderful how unexpected things can turn out to be a blessing in dsiguise.
I haven't been through anything really traumatic or difficult, but somethings that had me discouraged at the time have turned out to be blessings.

I myself had a severe and disabling stroke when I was 19 which in turn lead me back to Christ (I had turned away from faith in high school after growing up baptist) and has given me so much valuable insight. I've since been able to spread God's word through my story and am SO thankful, it's truly the best thing that ever happened to me.
I think by virtue of the very fact that you would say something like "I'm thankful for my brain damage" points out the fact that you truly have brain damage.

I don't understand it. You were doing well before the accident..are you glad he placed you in the wreck situation, or glad you got to keep the life you had even after brain damage?
No, I'm very glad that I have brain damage now. It's given me more compassion, shown me what truly matters--Jesus, guided me to the career that will bring glory to Jesus and about which I am passionate (I didn't know what to do career-wise before accident), given me such a good life story, etc., etc. I was not doing well beforehand because I didn't know what I wanted to do for a career, I used to party a lot (and got raped once when drunk), and most importantly I left no time for God. I didn't give Him the honor that He deserves, even though I had a wonderful life and had a lot going for me--I guess I felt my life was all MY doing. There was still something missing, and I couldn't see what it was. I'd been pretty passionate about Christ several times before, but it didn't last. I guess I really did want to know Jesus but could not (or would not, more like) live the life, and I feel like He disciplined me to bring me back to Him. His discipline hurts, but it's for the best. God knows what is for our best, and I'm so glad that I can put my life in hands that will work for my good. Romans 8:28

@hubbaduh@xanga - im a christian ill just start out by that... but that is just not true we shouldnt assume that God will take every bad thing and make something good come out of it thats naieve and also false.
@jhaguar13@xanga - It's a quote from the Bible. You are free to disagree with it, but please realise that you are disagreeing with God and His word. You are in essence calling God a liar.
@hubbaduh@xanga - right because of course everything in the Bible is literal and there is no rhetoric at all. And of course you are the ultimate authority on what God "meant.
@jhaguar13@xanga - The verse in question is fairly straight-forward. Again, I said that you are free to disagree with it, but simply realise that you are disagreeing with God, and not me. I honestly don't see why you think that it's naive and false to believe that God can work out everything for the good of those who love Him.

How dare you argue that im calling God a liar when your lifestyle is a slap in the face to God saying I know what the Bible says and I dont care. How do you figure you are exempt? How?

@jhaguar13@xanga - God's Word says that He works out everything for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Feel free to argue with God about that, but not me.

No joke I've had 5 major brain operations (traumatic brain injury) and 2 lung operations. You couldn't tell if you saw me and that's by the grace of God. I'm happy being in college... they give me alot of grace there (Davis College, new york). I have a part time job and I'm student government president... all with traumatic brain injury. I can definitely relate with you. I've had 4 almost near death experiences relating to the brain trauma and it's been all by God to get my attention to pay attention to others and off myself. God's granted me a fresh start and when I say I can relate... you have no idea. Praise God for his awesomeness.
@jhaguar13@xanga - Same-sex attraction doesn't automatically rule one out for receiving and understanding the word of God. I don't know where you got that one from. She can say whatever she would like, in good conscience, attraction to women and all.
