  • Let's Build a Well!

    Guest post submitted by crevis05

When I sit back and take inventory of my life, I don't particularly care for what I've accomplished.  I graduated high school (I don't think it's as important as it used to be because most people go to college). I know I've learned a great deal from going to college, albeit just two years.  Most of my learning has come from experience, and I experienced a lot of new things while away.

Now, I live in my hometown, play in the worship band at church, and I help out with my church's youth group.  I feel like I'm serving the Kingdom, but I struggle with complacency.

All my life I felt like I was going to do something huge, or I was going to be apart of something bigger than myself, or this town, or the U.S.  I know that God is bigger than all of these things, but I have felt something special.

A week or so ago, I watched a video about clean water.  Around 1 billion people in Africa, and India live without clean drinking water, and some 6,000 people die from a lack of clean water.

In the United States, we spend around 450 billion dollars on Christmas.  It would take about 10 billion dollars to provide clean drinking water to everyone around the world.  10 billion dollars!  Bill Gates is worth like 13 billion, or something like that.

I think I found my BIG thing.  I'm going to write Mr. Gates a letter everyday until he donates at least 250 million towards clean drinking water.  I'm just kidding, but seriously I'm going to raise 10 billion dollars to solve this!

I'm kidding.  I feel very strongly about helping though.  I'm thinking about organizing a fundraiser, or something.  I think the price of a single well is around 4K.  So, I think $4,000 is a good number to shoot for.  It might take 5 years to get that much money, but it won't be 5 years wasted.

I don't think this is the "Big" thing God has in mind for me.  I will probably have to work my way up to that, but I think this is a good starting point.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or ideas?  I could definitely use some help.
